Rixton Review

Rixton is a band that is quite popular; most people who listen to Pandora or Spotify have heard of them. The cover of the newest album, Let the Road, is modern and cool, but intriguing. It shows the four members (Jake Roche, Charley Bagnall, Danny Wilkin and Lewi Morgan) clad in ‘hipster’ clothing and walking down a blue street. The cover is very ‘artsy’ and a real eye-catcher. On the back is a photo of the boys dressed the same way, but this time walking on a sidewalk, looking at the camera. The outside is nicely done, and makes the listener curious as to what is on the inside.

After admiring the cover, I listened to the CD, which has 10 songs. The title song, “Let The Road,” has a beautiful sound and starts with some very nice harmonies and a cappella singing. It is a nice song to play for relaxing or background music. The song is beautiful from beginning to end. The beginning of the second song, “Wait On Me,” reminds me of a Maroon 5 song. However, it still retains the boy band charm. This song is slightly more upbeat and has a more ‘pop’ feel. As I move on to the third song, “Appreciated,” I notice that all of the songs seem to include some whistling, which is unique and makes Rixton stand out. As the songs continue, I notice they all are very soulful and enjoyable, but they never get boring. The fifth song is “Me and My Broken Heart,” which I have heard at least 10 times before, and I never knew that it was written by Rixton. It is rather different from the other songs, but I enjoyed it a lot. My favorite songs are “Let the Road” and “Wait on Me” because the first one is very unique and really showcases Rixton’s style, while the second is a more classic ‘band sound.’

Overall, I think that the album was great, and I would listen to all of the songs again. I was surprised that I did not hear the usual ‘boy band’ sound, and instead, Rixton seems to have a very stripped down song, with very little voice alteration and few overpowering instruments. Rixton is now a band of which I will take more notice. Below is a list of the songs in the album.
