How To Deal with Anxiety and Stress During the School Year

High School students experience a wide variety of stress and anxiety during their education. Students go through high stress situations during exams or even just in their everyday lives. Many teenagers do not know how to deal with and manage their stress and anxiety during school. As a 10th grader, I have experienced many different levels of stress and anxiety. Here is how to handle it during the school year!

  • One of the biggest ways I have learned to keep stress underway during school is to keep a planner, agenda or a to-do list. Planning out what is most important to least important, prioritizing, is a great way to organize your homework so that you are not stressing over the amount of work that must be completed within one night. Writing down your to-do’s in a planner allows you to take control of your work and not be overwhelmed.
  • Another way to keep anxiety and stress under control during the school year is to try to keep a positive mind set. As students, we go through endless amounts of stress from the biggests tests of our lives and we begin to think about the future. Keeping a positive mind set is very important to keeping stress and anxiety low because thinking negatively never solves problems it only makes them worse. Positive thinking actually has tangible, visible benefits as studies have shown great improvement in performance, whether it be in sports or work, when positive thought is involved.
  • Lastly, as hard as it may be during the school year, one of the best ways to maintain stress and anxiety is to get more sleep. When your body is stressed it needs more sleep to go about daily activities. Additionally, with a lack of sleep, you may become even more stressed because you are over tired. The proper amount of sleep also helps your brain function efficiently, making school work that much easier.

These are the tips that I find most helpful. There will be good times and bad times in high school, but in stressful situations it is all about learning to manage and curb your stress.
