Harriton TSA Members at the Conference

On February 11 in Quakertown, the Harriton TSA chapter (HHSTSA) spent the day at Strayer Middle School competing in the Pennsylvania TSA Region 5 conference. This was the first competitive conference of the year for the thirty-six members of HHSTSA who had been preparing since November. In the end, the months of work paid off, as Harriton scored the highest number of points of the twenty-three high schools in Region 5.

Although the top finish was a tremendous boost to the chapter’s spirit, the highlight of the conference was the chapter’s new advisors. This year, Welsh Valley Middle School TechEd teachers and TSA advisors, Mr. Weaver and Mr. Brockman, are sponsoring Harriton TSA. When asked about his experience with the high school program thus far, Mr. Weaver said that “as a first-year high school TSA coach, it is very rewarding to continue working with these students after being with most of them for several years in middle school TSA.” Even after so much change, Harriton TSA has clearly improved, garnering fifty-five top-ten wins at the regional conference, breaking the previous Harriton record of forty-five.

Harriton took home first in the Photographic Technology, Promotional Design, Scientific Visualization (SciVis), Software Development, Chapter Team (Written), and Engineering Math events. The members of Harriton TSA are already working towards the future PATSA state conference in Champion, Pennsylvania, which is to occur in mid-April.
