Harriton Softball Wins a Nail Biter Over Garnet Valley

The Harriton softball team won a hard-fought battle Tuesday afternoon as they beat the third-ranked team in the Central League, Garnet Valley, 4-3. This huge upset clearly shows the improvement that the Lady Rams have made since last season as they now have three wins for the season–the same number as the past three years combined. To add to the excitement, this was the first game since Harriton joined the Central League in 2008 that the Rams have won against a team with a winning record.

Garnet Valley took a 3-2 lead in the first two innings, and each team played tremendous defense the next three innings, keeping any runs from being scored. One highlight to note was when senior Lyndsey Diebel fell into a full split with one foot on first to get the stunning out on Garnet Valley.

The Rams tied it up late in the sixth inning, mounting a huge amount of pressure for the final inning. The home team held it together, however, keeping Garnet Valley from scoring any runs despite a huge hit to the outfield. Finally, the Rams were up to bat again with a tied score in the last inning. Shannon Finnegan made it on base and made it to third. Amira Solomon stepped up to bat and was greeted with two strikes. There would be no third strike, though, because she smacked the ball all the way to the outfield, right between the left and center fielders, bringing Shannon Finnegan come for the game-winning run.

Without a doubt, this was the Harriton Softball team’s biggest win of the season. They are nowhere near done, and expect them to continue to dominate out on the field. Come out and support them as they take on LM this Thursday!
