October 23: Cheerleaders watch the Harriton-LM football game.

Year after year, Harriton vs. Lower Merion is the football rivalry that finishes off Spirit Week and attracts crowds of fans to watch a dramatic game. After a crushing loss to the Aces last year, senior quarterback and varsity captain Patrick Stewart hoped to lead his team to their first win of the season on the night of Friday, October 23.

The first play of the game was a huge kick return by Harriton, getting the ball deep into Aces territory at the 38-yard line. After a 3 and out by the offense, Harriton’s defense held. In the second half, after sustaining a great drive, Lower Merion broke the scoring drought with a touchdown and successful two-point conversion.

Harriton answered with a touchdown but could not achieve the two-point conversion. The Aces scored once more off a breakaway touchdown and converted the extra point. After each team scored another touchdown, Harriton had what would be their final score of the game converted by Jack Thomas, including the extra point.

The third quarter ended 22-20 Aces, promising an exciting finish. To open the quarter, the Aces marched down the field to score a touchdown but they missed the PAT, leaving the Rams down by only one score. In the end, the Herd’s hopes were dashed after Stewart threw three pick sixes and the game went beyond Harriton’s reach. With a final score of 41-20, the Rams fell to the Lower Merion Aces.

The season continues this Friday (October 30) at 7:00. The Rams will continue to seek their first win of the season as they take on Springfield at home under the lights.
