The team before the game against Shipley

This season, the Harriton Boys’ soccer team finished the year with a final record of 8-11 (8-10 regular season).

Coming off of a solid 15-16 year, the Rams graduated 12 seniors and made room for a younger team in the upcoming 16-17 season. This meant the Rams had some rebuilding to do, demonstrated in the new starting defense and goalie this season.

While prospects of success this year were unclear, the team managed to start the season on a hot streak and win most of the first third of its games.

However, coming into the middle stretch of the season, the Rams fell apart and endured a seven game losing streak. Many of these losses were tough for the Rams, as they battled it out game after game, only to come up short after overtime losses, lucky penalty shots, etc.

Following this losing streak, the Rams found themselves in 10th place in seeding for the district playoffs, out of 9 teams that make it. With a potential playoff spot on the line, the Rams knew they had to step up, and went on a four game win streak to end the season, moving up to 6th place in the standings.

This sixth place finish meant the Rams had to play away at 3rd seed Bishop Shanahan, with only two wins needed to make it into the state playoffs. Unfortunately, the Rams came up short and lost in overtime on a penalty kick.

Regardless of this short playoff run, the Rams had an incredible season and the future looks bright for the young team.

In the 16-17 season, the Rams only started 3 seniors (goalie, center back, and right back), and many other starters were underclassmen. The team was filled with standout players, many of whom will be back next year.

This includes sophomore Alex Kades, who netted 14 goals and was named first-team All Central League. Other great players for the Rams were Emil Andersen (junior center back & honorable mention All-Central League), Evan Tracy (sophomore honorable mention), and Serhat Sakarcan (junior leading assister).

Although the Rams battled many tough ups and downs this year, the whole team is confident that next year will be one of the best in Rams’ soccer history. Between young talent, great chemistry, and great coaching, the boys soccer 17-18 season will undoubtedly be great.
