The Harriton Banner hopes you’re all excited for two more exclusive interviews with contestants from this year’s Mr. Harriton! Jack (pictured left) is one of our two junior competitors, and Hannibal (pictured right) is a senior. Both contestants are full of confidence and charm, and they’re surely going to be fierce competitors. Stay tuned for more interviews, and come to Mr. Harriton to see who takes home the crown!

Jack Mendelsohn – Junior

Harriton Banner: What is a day in your life like?

Jack Mendelsohn: Mostly depressing, a little sad.

HB: Why did you try out for Mr. Harriton?

JM: CAS hours.

HB: Do you have a talent that cannot be performed? (i.e., a talent other than what you’re doing in the show)

JM: I can make anyone run away in tears just by saying hello.

HB: What is your favorite thing about Mr. Harriton so far?

JM: The chicks. Not girls, but the family of chicklets that we have been raising backstage. See more at:  https://hhsbanner.com/top-stories/2016/02/24/meet-mr-harriton-contestants-will-snyder-nate-rush/

HB: Who is a competitor to watch out for (other than you)?

JM: Jake Rome, just because I didn’t think anyone else would say him.

HB: If you could choose the theme what would it be?

JM: Types of cheese (cheddar, swiss, american, brie, parmesan, mozzarella, gouda, havarti, muenster, and toe).

HB: Why are you the next Mr. Harriton?

JM: I’m not, realistically.

HB: What’s your favorite school activity/sport/club/etc. (besides Mr. Harriton)?

JM: Cryptozoology (if we ever have a meeting).

HB: Personal Statement? (this can be anything basically)

JM: Devin Chulik’s mesmerizing hips are the only reason I have to live.

Hannibal Ahmed – Senior

HB: What is a day in your life like?

Hannibal Ahmed: If I get up nice and early, the bible’s good to read, but sadly it’s generally more of a hyper-kinda-focused, sleep-glazed race to get ready and out of the house while still managing to get a lot of food in my bag for the day.  What tends to get my mind functioning is when I step outside, and feel the cold, some people don’t like that moment, I happen to not be one of them.

A few options here, a productive day looks like me being in class, then me going to places alone to work, which is preferred, but that hasn’t been most days this year. A normal day looks like, me only legitimately being involved in 3 classes at the maximum.  They also tend to involve large quantities of hugging, a lot of jamming really loud on a piano (generally alone, generally in school, and this tends to replace actually practicing the piano), and a lot of wishing that I could do work.  Often times this wish is verbalized in whatever conversation is filling my work time that day.  Some “newer” things that we throw in a daily basis are 2 hours of dancing (fun fun!) and my personal gymnastics-y training that I don’t do enough of.  So yeah, that’s the daytime.  I’m a sleeper, so the nighttime has significantly fewer options.  Either we throw on beats for an hour, we shower for an hour, we read the bible for an hour, we chat on the phone for an hour, or something else equally chill, and it tends to be about an hour.  Oh, and I sleep on the floor with about 4 blankets (it’s a choice guys), beds just don’t do it for me.

HB: Why did you try out for Mr. Harriton?

HA: Greberman [Hannibal’s partner in the event], and the excessively large quantity of people that wanted me to audition, and I’ll only be a senior in high school once and I can only do this once, so why not?

HB: Do you have a talent that cannot be performed? (i.e., a talent other than what you’re doing in the show)

HA: Talent is a strong word, buuuut, there are a couple other skills in there.  One may or may not be surprised to learn I can do a handstand and some pretty fancy looking kicks (currently debating whether or not to do so on stage during the show).

HB: What is your favorite thing about Mr. Harriton so far?

HA: My solo in the intro dance, and the song after it.

HB: Who is a competitor to watch out for (other than you)?

HA: Such a rough question. Hoffman? Karpel? Joel? I have no clue how people are gonna react.

HB: If you could choose the theme what would it be?

HA: I’m not sure about a word for this would but all of the music would be Reggae, and the MC’s would have lock wigs and sunglasses.

HB: Why are you the next Mr. Harriton?

HA: Savage. Poppin. Lit. Gucci?

HB: What’s your favorite school activity/sport/club/etc. (besides Mr. Harriton)?

HA: Ooooo, tough. Choir/Horticulture (class)/SPARC (poetry/rap club) are too close to call.

HB: Personal Statement

HA: Poppin.
