There is no longer any such thing as an NFL expert. Throw expectations out the window because football is so unpredictable right now. Even the Jets stand a legitimate chance of winning the super bowl. This week there were many different ideas of how the power rankings should look; bear with me here.

32 – Cleveland Browns (0-6) Last Week: 32

The Browns are in give up mode. They allowed Houston to jump out 33-3 on Sunday before losing 33-17. Kevin Hogan was not the answer for this offense as he threw three interceptions. Weird development, the ground game was back in good shape. Between Hogan, Duke Johnson Jr, and Isaiah Crowell the Browns averaged over 6 yards per carry. Maybe that’s something to build off of? Probably not.

31 – San Francisco 49ers (0-6) LW: 31

This team just continues to lose close games. I bet the 49ers will win pretty soon. The run game struggled, but CJ Beathard kept San Francisco alive. Beathard spread the ball out to George Kittle, Pierre Garcon, Carlos Hyde, and Aldrick Robinson very well. The 49ers finally have some stability at quarterback, and shouldn’t be too upset with their loss on Sunday.

30 – Indianapolis Colts (2-4) LW: 26

The Colts just aren’t that good defensively. Indianapolis did a lot to stay in the game on Sunday, but eventually were gashed by the Titans run game and couldn’t recover. Something needs to happen in Indianapolis that differentiates this team from others. Currently, there is no one thing that the Colts do really well.

29 – New York Giants (1-5) LW: 30

What a weird victory for the Giants. The Eli Manning to Evan Engram connection and Orleans Darkwa on the ground were the keys to moving the football for New York. However, the offense didn’t have to do much on Sunday night. The Giants defense stepped up big time with clutch performances from Landon Collins and Jenoris Jenkins. Collins had an interception while Jenkins played great with a forced fumble and a pick-six.

28 – Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-3) LW: 18

The Buccaneers got punched in the mouth by Arizona. It’s a wake-up call for a team that has way too much talent to be 2-3 at this point in the season. Jameis Winston getting hurt wasn’t even the issue as Ryan Fitzpatrick still helped the offense score 33 points. The defense looked absolutely incapable of stopping Adrian Peterson. Where is the dominant defense that nearly led Tampa to the playoffs last year? This team cannot win shootouts.

27 – Oakland Raiders (2-4) LW: 22

You would think getting Derek Carr back would fix everything for the Raiders, but no. Carr may be still hampered by a back injury, but it’s clear that the rest of Oakland’s offense continues to struggle. The Raiders saw multiple dropped passes in the loss Sunday. The Raiders have now lost four straight games, and are beginning to look helpless. It’s a must-win game for Oakland on Thursday night against the Chiefs.

26 – Baltimore Ravens (3-3) LW: 21

The Ravens are pretty bad for a 3-3 team. Joe Flacco again had a turnover-ridden day as the offense struggled to find the end zone. Although the Ravens defense is a top unit, they still place 30th in run stopping. It makes perfect sense that Jordan Howard gashed them in overtime. The Ravens can’t move the ball, and because of that are 0-3 in games where they lose the possession battle.

25 – Chicago Bears (2-4) LW: 28

This was a nice win for the Bears against Baltimore. The defense doesn’t get enough credit for holding the Ravens to 9 offensive points. Special teams, of course, could use a bit of a boost. You cannot let a team back into a football game because of two kick return touchdowns. You would think the Bears would know all about this type of thing. Mitchell Trubisky looked more settled in on Sunday thanks to a heavy run game.

24 – Miami Dolphins (3-2) LW: 29

The Dolphins got a huge win on Sunday in Atlanta. At 3-2, this squad deserves to be higher in these rankings, but inconsistencies keep me dubious. The Dolphins played a horrible first half but ran the ball well in the second half to pick up the slack. Miami played well defensively down the stretch to complete a comeback win that I still cannot figure out the meaning of.

23 – New York Jets (3-3) LW: 23

The Jets are not a bad football team. If not for the weird play with Austin Seferian-Jenkins, we might be talking about a playoff contender. It has amazed me how good Josh McCown has been. The Jets have thrown together a receiver group that continues to be consistent. New York has nothing to lose and no current distractions. That’s a good environment for winning.

22 – Los Angeles Chargers (2-4) LW: 27

This is the exact same thing that the Chargers do every year. Los Angeles always starts out with a subpar record but then wins a couple of games, usually in the division, to bounce back. The wins against the Giants and Raiders have Los Angeles at 2-4 and very much in the playoff conversation. The Chargers stand a great chance at home against Denver this week. Also, it’s cool to see that Melvin Gordon continues to catch touchdown passes.

21 – Arizona Cardinals (3-3) LW: 25

Adrian Peterson is back everybody! The Cardinals might have a legitimate shot at the playoffs if Peterson continues to play the way he did on Sunday. The power back will open things up for Carson Palmer, and his many targets, in the passing game. Arizona’s defense needs to play a little bit better down the stretch, but Arizona’s offense could be arguably better with Adrian Peterson then they were with David Johnson.

20 – Cincinnati Bengals (2-3) LW: 19

The Bengals got a week off and now have to travel to Heinz Field to take on the Steelers. This is a tough matchup for Cincinnati, but they have begun to play better in the last couple of weeks. Andy Dalton has been much better with the support of Giovani Bernard in the passing game. If the Bengals beat Pittsburgh, the power rankings will be more warped than ever.

19 – Green Bay Packers (4-2) LW: 3

Just when you think you’ve seen the biggest heartbreaker of 2017, Aaron Rodgers gets hurt. In a season where anything is possible, it’s impossible to know how good Green Bay will be. Considering the beat-up Packers offensive line, I expect Green Bay will struggle to do much until Brett Hundley finds a rhythm. Hundley has potential, but he is not Aaron Rodgers. This is one of biggest slips I have ever seen in the power rankings.

18 – Detroit Lions (3-3) LW: 8

The Lions don’t feel like a team that should be ranked this low. They also don’t seem like a team that has lost three of its last four games. Detroit has struggled against teams with explosive offenses. In their three losses, Detroit has allowed 36.33 points per game and 389.66 yards per game. Those three games were against arguably the only good quarterbacks they’ve played this year. If Detroit’s biggest weakness is good quarterback play, they will struggle to make the playoffs.

17 – Buffalo Bills (3-2) LW: 16

Bye week for the Bills leads to them falling a spot. I hate moving teams down on the bye, but this year has been weird. Buffalo still has a top defense and a slowly improving offense. When Tyrod Taylor plays well, the Bills win. However, the Bills stellar run game from 2016 has yet to look the same this year. LeSean McCoy needs to get back into midseason form if the Bills want to be contenders.

16 – Dallas Cowboys (2-3) LW: 15

The Cowboys were also on a bye week, and were hurt by the rest of the NFC East winning. Now, trailing the Eagles by 2.5 games, and the Redskins by a game, the Cowboys really need to find that explosiveness from last year. It is clear that the Cowboys defense cannot be relied on. Dak and Zeke can put up 30+ points a game and must if they want to win games. Dallas has a trap game coming up at San Francisco.

15 – Denver Broncos (3-2) LW: 4

There are only so many words that can describe how disappointed Broncos fans must be. Denver struggled to run the ball and stop the run Sunday night. Those are two things that Denver had been dominant in through their first four games. Trevor Siemian has to do a better job protecting the football as well. Just an overall ugly performance from the Broncos.

14 – Tennessee Titans (3-3) LW: 24

Extremely questionable play calling in the Dolphins game and in the first half against the Colts made me furious. Then, out of nowhere, the Titans started to run the ball again. DeMarco Murray became a workhorse on the drive that gave the Titans the lead. Afterwards, Tennessee dialed up a deep shot to Taywan Taylor to knockout Indy. Speaking of deep shots, Marcus Mariota looked extremely comfortable as a pocket passer Monday night. If he is healthy, the Titans can win playoff games.

13 – Minnesota Vikings (4-2) LW: 17

Minnesota has found ways to use their weapons in the absence of Sam Bradford and Dalvin Cook. Jerick McKinnon has stepped up big time in Cook’s absence. Along with a top ten defense, Minnesota stands a legitimate chance at winning the NFC North. If Case Keenum keeps this team in the win column, why shouldn’t they expect more?

12 – Jacksonville Jaguars (3-3) LW: 12

I’m not going to drop the Jaguars for losing to a good team. Jacksonville got behind early because of two special teams plays, and was forced to rely on Blake Bortles’ arm. Leonard Fournette is the clear strength of the Jags offense and when they can’t run the ball 25+ times a game, they will struggle to score. Loss aside, it was another good defensive outing for Jacksonville against a strong Rams offense.

11 – Atlanta Falcons (3-2) LW: 6

Ugh, back to this game. I don’t have any idea how Atlanta lost this game. The Falcons looked like the 2016 Falcons during the first half. Then they let Jay Cutler carve up their secondary. It will be interesting to see how people react to the Falcons blowing another huge lead.

10 – New Orleans Saints (3-2) LW: 20

Kudos to the New Orleans Saints who have pieced together 3 straight wins. The Saints defense is the big story as they have begun to play their best football since 2009. New Orleans isn’t dominant on defense but instead is very capable of creating turnovers and game-changing plays. The Saints defense recorded a fumble recovery in the end zone and two pick-sixes in a demolition of the Lions.

9 – Houston Texans (3-3) LW: 14

I really like the Texans despite their defensive injuries. Deshaun Watson played fantastic as usual on Sunday leading his offense to another thirty point game. Houston is currently being underrated probably because of the mistrust of a rookie quarterback. To me, Deshaun Watson’s early season dominance is reminiscent of Dak Prescott last year. Except Watson doesn’t have a number one running game or a top offensive line.

8 – Los Angeles Rams (4-2) LW: 11

I would like to move the Rams even higher in these rankings, but their loss to the Redskins at home prevents me. The Rams have been one of the most consistent teams in the NFL so far. LA beat a good Jaguars team on the road to further their status as NFC West contenders. Jared Goff wasn’t super impressive but again played turnover-free football in a big win.

7 – Washington Redskins (3-2) LW: 10

Penalties and injuries. The Skins can’t get out of the way of either, and it nearly cost them the game on Sunday. Captain Kirk Cousins came to the rescue with a 5 minute, 9 play, 84-yard touchdown drive. The defense looked a lot worse on Sunday against a rookie quarterback, but they made the plays late to win. After all, that’s all that matters. It’s worth noting that surviving against teams you should beat is abnormal in this NFL season.

6 – Carolina Panthers (4-2) LW: 7

Carolina continues to look average. Cam Newton and Christian McCaffrey are starting to really gain chemistry, which is important. However, what did this team do well on Thursday night? Carson Wentz torched their secondary, LeGarrette Blount averaged over 5 yards a carry, and the Panthers committed multiple turnovers. But, the Panthers are still at 4-2 and have some quality wins. 4-2 is extremely good for this hectic NFL season.

5 – Pittsburgh Steelers (4-2) LW: 13

The Steelers knew what they had to do on Sunday. Give the ball to Le’Veon Bell. Bell replicated his playoff performance in Kansas City last year. When the Steelers run the ball well, they might be unbeatable. Not only that, but a good running game is often a cure for a struggling passing game. Because of the weapons Pittsburgh has in the passing game, they should be very good when Big Ben is more accurate.

4 – New England Patriots (4-2) LW: 9

After starting out a bit slow on Sunday, the Patriots rebounded with 24 unanswered points. The once horrific defense has now put together back to back solid performances. New England just continues to show the importance of coaching. Good coaching leads to midseason adjustments. The Patriots have made their midseason adjustment at the quarter mark.

3 – Seattle Seahawks (3-2) LW: 5

I am much higher than most people on the Seahawks. In the last two weeks Seattle has looked much better than they did in weeks one through three. Russell Wilson has not had to be the biggest playmaker as his defense has started to force turnovers. Since Seattle was on a bye, they are not going to move down. Bye weeks are almost a blessing in the present day NFL.

2 – Philadelphia Eagles (5-1) LW: 2

What a win for Doug Pederson’s group. The Eagles are really starting to play well in all phases of the game. Their weakest unit, the secondary, picked off Cam Newton three times. LeGarrette Blount continues to roll, and Carson Wentz was unfazed after an early turnover on the road. Next up, the Eagles can really establish dominance in the NFC East by gaining an early sweep against the Redskins.

1 – Kansas City Chiefs (5-1) LW: 1

What happened to Kansas City’s offense in the first half? Whatever it was, they figured it out at halftime. The Chiefs nearly fought back to win a game where they had only 6 yards in the first half. Not only does that show good coaching, but it shows how hard it is to outplay this team for four quarters. The win against the Eagles serves as a tiebreaker for the 1 spot until Kansas City loses again.
