The Boys Ice Hockey Team is at the peak of its season, with the halfway mark just behind them. Through the 9 games so far, the Rams are 1-8 with a win against Marple Newtown High School. On the season, the Rams have combined for 33 points as a team, averaging almost 4 points per game.

Team leaders include the captain, Will DeVerter, with a team-high 12 goals and 2 assists. Other leaders include Sophomores Ethan Milani and Berk Petersohn, with 5 and 4 points respectively.

Highlighting the play from the younger members of the team is freshmen goaltender Liam Cunningham, who stepped in during the absence of starter Alex Krauss while he was injured. Through 5 games, Cunningham made 173 saves and led the Rams to their first win of the year.

While the Rams don’t have as many players on the roster as in previous years, they have still managed to find ways to challenge top teams in the central league. The refusal to go down without a fight characterizes this team like no other, and throughout the season they have taken high seeded teams like Strath Haven and Ridley down to the wire, with, in some cases, as little as 7 active players on the bench.

The relentlessness and dedication this team holds have surprised many teams expecting to win easily against the Rams, with most games being within 1-3 goals after the first two periods. The scoring gap becomes larger towards the end of their games, which reflects Harriton’s recurring issue of roster size.

The lack of players on the roster is yet again the bane of the team, especially when playing against schools with the numbers to keep putting fresh legs on the ice. However, this small roster has created a very tight-knit team, and the commitment to play for one another has given the Rams a work ethic rivaling that of any team in the Central League.

The boys look to toss and sauce on senior night at the Skatium in Havertown this Thursday at 8:00 pm against Radnor.

Harriton will be recognizing its two seniors, Will Deverter and Alex Krauss.

With seven games remaining on the season, the Rams look to finish out the season on a high note, with a handful of winnable games lined up. However the season ends, the future of Harriton Hockey looks to be moving in the right direction with plenty of young talent and experience moving forward.
