Fox News’s Poor Choice of Words
Fox News headline reads “Sex scandal boomerang: is the left ready for a Bill Clinton reckoning?”
Maybe it is time to talk about the allegations against Bill. But that’s not what bothers me about that headline. It’s their choice of words—“sex scandal.”
The firestorm unleashed by the Harvey Weinstein revelations and the #MeToo movement is not about sex scandals. This is about rampant sexual assault. Calling them “sex scandals” is just another way of making this problem seem far less horrific than it is.
Perhaps Fox’s poor diction is unintentional. But could it be that they’re trying to soften the blow of these revelations since sexual harassment is such a big part of their corporate culture?

While that may be a reason, don’t you believe that in this age of smartphones and social media. News stations, such as Fox News, are struggling to find viewers due to the fact that the number of people watching the news has come to an all time low. So when people see an eye-catching word or phrase it means better business for the media. Most people refer to this term as clickbait and it is widely used in the internet. So it should not come as such a surprise, when their phrasing is a little far from the truth.
