Boys’ Lacrosse Loses Close Game in Season Opener

The boys’ lacrosse team began their season on Thursday, March 24, with a home game against West Chester East. Unfortunately, the game did not go the way they had hoped, ending in a tough 9-6 loss for the Rams.

The team’s goals came from junior Hakan Atillasoy and seniors Matthew Binnion and Patrick Stewart, all three of whom chipped in a pair of goals. The defense remained tough, and senior goalie Ian Walsh, who came to Harriton from Shipley, had a good first game in his new Harriton uniform.

The Rams’ critical flaws versus West Chester East were the difficulty they had scoring and their struggle to get back on defense in transition. Coach Proud intends to fix these problems throughout the week leading up to the games against Council Rock North (Saturday, April 2) and Penncrest (Tuesday, April 5).

An issue that will be harder for the Rams to fix is the depth of the bench. The team only has about 45 players, so they will have trouble keeping up with some of the larger schools (which can have up to 70 players) without getting too tired by the end of the games.

Despite these issues, the team looks good overall and the players and coaches remain optimistic for the rest of the season.
