Millions of people worldwide check their horoscopes everyday to read into their supposed personality, yet little did they know that they might have been reading the wrong horoscope.
Back in ancient times, the Babylonians had thirteen constellations but wanted only twelve, so they removed Ophuchicus, the snake holder. When this removal occurred, the dates represented by each zodiac sign were altered to fit a wider scale, in order to make up for the lost sign. Little did the Ancient Babylonians know that the stars actually do resemble thirteen constellations, and they’d had it right in the first place.
Scientists were unaware of this as well, until recently, when astronomers from the Minnesota Planetarium Society discovered that all of the stars were pushed back by about a month, because of the moon’s gravitational pull on the Earth. This would mean that every person living today was told that they were born under the wrong zodiac sign, since they are assigned based on date of birth.
Something as astronomical as this would have a huge impact on millions of people’s way of life. Many believe so strongly in their now-proven-false zodiac sign that they’ve gotten it tattooed to their body, or made life-altering decisions based on the predicted personality of the zodiac.
If you are a big zodiac follower, don’t fret over this change, because you can control whether you want to keep your original, false zodiac sign, or if you want to accept the new one. This all depends on which kind of astronomy you decide to believe in: western or sidereal astrology. If you follow western astrology, which most Americans do, your sign will stay exactly how it was since you were born, which would be incorrect astronomically, but would keep the zodiac enthusiasts at ease. Sidereal astrology, on the other hand, actually follows the true astronomical location of the constellations with the thirteen zodiac signs, but it is not as popular in the USA.
So, in conclusion, there truly are thirteen zodiac signs, and the one you have been referring to as your own was most likely incorrect. But, if you want, you can disregard this information and follow your old zodiac sign. It’s completely up to you.
