So, absence makes the heart grow fonder, huh? Missing her lilting, dulcet vibes, British R&B enthusiasts long for a new release from Des’ree. Her take on reggae, calypso, jazz, rap, and R&B distinguishes not only her unique sound, but also her exceptional talent. Des’ree is only known best in the U.S. for her single “Kissing You” (the “love theme” of Buhrmann’s “Romeo + Juliet”), while she reigned mostly in Britain throughout the 1990s as one of the most successful pop/soul vocalists of the decade. As a songwriter, her lyrics focus on themes of love and the city, and they fill a total of five albums that culminated with “Dream Soldier” in 2003. Since then she’s left the music scene, and rumor has it that she’s still writing and is studying to become a naturopath— a career that somehow seems appropriate, as her fans often found her music to be soothing
