As the third week of school passes, most students in the Harriton community have already settled into their daily extracurricular activities. But for the members of The Harriton Theater Company, the excitement has only just begun.
HTC will be kicking off the year with a performance of The Giver, a play based off of the classic novel by Lois Lowry and adapted to the stage by Eric Cobie.
The audition process started on Wednesday, September 19th, when all students interested in participating were required to prepare a 30 second monologue of their choice to show off their raw acting abilities. With a cast of only nine roles, those who auditioned for the production prepared accordingly and made sure to follow all of the directions as best as they could.
This competitive procedure then continued on into Thursday afternoon, when all those who were chosen for the callback-round were asked to read certain lines from the actual show, based on the part for which they were called back.
At this point, you might assume that the students trying out would become slightly combative and impatient, but instead the auditionees made sure to think positively and encourage their “opponents” to do the best that they could. As the callbacks came to a close, it was apparent that the decision process would be a tough one.
Although their anxiousness grows by the minute, all the students have to do now is wait for the final cast list to be released!
