Review of The 100
The CW presents a new American post-apocalyptic drama called The 100. The pilot aired on March 19, 2014 and the plot is set ninety-seven years after a nuclear war has destroyed every bit of civilization on Earth, while the lone human survivors live out in space. One hundred young individuals are sent down to earth hoping to see if it is possible to return. The first episode revolves around the hardships that they have to face, as well as the surprising information that they discover on Earth.
The first episode starts out with Clark Griffin (Eliza Taylor) dreaming about life on Earth. She is a prisoner because she knows a mysterious secret. She is forcefully taken away and finds out that she is one of the one hundred that will be sent down to Earth. The chancellor (Isaiah Washington) announces that they need to head to Mount Weather and find supplies that will help them survive, but as soon as they land on Earth, a riot that breaks out. Some want to rebel and take their transmitters off, but some like Clark want to help the people in space and bring them down safely. Clark teams up with Finn, Jasper, and Octavia to go find Mount Weather, while others stay back.
Back on The Ark (their spaceship), the chancellor has been shot, and his position is being targeted. People are in a panic, because supplies are running out and there is not much time left. The episode ends with Clark’s team finally reaching Mount Weather, but Jasper is attacked and taken. There have been survivors all this time on earth, and they are mad. The radiation will not kill them, but the surviving humans will.
The 100 is packed with action and thrills and promises to keep us interested. It is definitely not on the top level yet, but if the actors keep up their chemistry and the story line is all it has promised to be — this show has the ability to go far and possibly become a top TV show. However, the story is complex and the first episode itself seems a little congested. The writers and directors will have to find a way to incorporate all the action, but make the story easier to follow. Still, the actors are very talented and if it keeps on the right track The 100 has potential to be quite popular.
