20 Things to Do on a Snow Day
As we all know, being stuck inside on a snow day can be pretty boring with only a couple of things to do. We have the ultimate guide on how to have the best snow day ever! Whether it’s silly or serious, you can keep your snow day safe and productive.
1. Build a snowman! Playing in the snow is a great way to get your creative juices flowing! Roll up your sleeves and get to work on making the best snowman ever. Add the traditional scarf or carrot nose, or maybe even have a competition to see who can make the best weird snowman.
2. Curl up with a good book! When you have a whole day on your hands, curling up with a big blanket, sipping a delicious cup of hot chocolate, and catching up on your latest reading material is the perfect way to spend it.
3. Bake! Whipping up a batch of sugar cookies will fill you with warmth and sweetness. You can decorate your cookies or just enjoy them plain with a big glass of cold milk!
4. Catch up on homework. Although this activity may seem a bit boring, a snow day is the perfect time to finish homework so that you don’t have to fret about it all throughout the week. Set yourself up in a quiet space and get it done so you can enjoy the rest of your day!
5. Get crafty! Find paint, canvas, paper, glitter, or anything else you can find and do an art project. Scribble with crayons or express yourself through a painting! No one can see your mistakes and the sky’s the limit, so get creative.
6. Organize. Has your closet been overflowing with clothes? Has your cluttered desk been unusable for weeks? Take the next snow day to reorganize your space. You’ll reduce your stress from irritated parents and take pride in your productivity.
7. Play with your pets. Giving some love and affection to your favorite animal can be a great way to pass the time and relieve stress. This petting and cuddling can make special bonding memories for you and your pet.
8. Catch up on your favorite TV shows or watch a movie! With school, homework, and after-school activities, you may not usually be able to watch your weekly episodes of “New Girl”. A snow day gives you a free pass to catch up on your best shows. Or find a new movie that you have never seen before… be adventurous and try something you don’t think you would normally watch!
9. Play a board game! If you are snowbound with your family, have a bonding time. Pull out your dusty old board games and have some fun! Sorry, but are you just acting Clueless, or are you really in Trouble?
10. Write a story. Fantasy, fiction, or mystery? Break out the pencil and paper, get your brain flowing, and see where your mind takes you in your original short story. For another twist, collaborate on a story with your friend or sibling by switching off every few sentences or paragraphs.
11.Write thank you cards to the superintendent! Nothing says, “Thanks for the snow day, please don’t take away our spring and summer breaks,” like a nice big thank you card and maybe some flowers to go along. Stay casual with daisies or lilies – you don’t want to send the wrong message.
12. Work on your beach body. I know what you’re thinking, Harriton. “Why would I want to work on my beach body when I could toast s’mores and watch TV all day?” But body sculpting, strongly endorsed by such celebs as Kim Kardashian and Blue Ivy, may be one of the most important underground snow day activities . Plus, after a few sweaty private exercise days, gym will be a breeze for the rest of the year.
13. Train for the 2018 Winter Olympics. It’s no secret that the cold climates of countries such as Russia, Germany, Norway and Canada give them an edge in the Winter Games. Take advantage of the frosty days right here and practice your favorite Olympic sport. Who knows, enough snow days and Harriton might have its first graduating batch of Olympians!
14. Analyze the different patterns on snowflakes. Has anyone ever told you that you’re special like a snowflake? Well, there’s about a foot of snow covering our entire school district. The average snowflake is 2/3 of a centimeter and there is 30.48 centimeters in a foot. They can’t all be different! Get out there and prove to the world that you’re way more unique than a snowflake.
15. Knit. Learning a useful skill like knitting on an eventless snow day can be a great way to pass time. Get really good and start knitting useful winter gear, like earmuffs for your cat, leg warmers for your chairs, and even a sweater for your house to keep out the draft.
16. Re-invent fire. With the electricity out in so many houses, finding new ways to stay warm has been a must. Gather some friends and go on a scavenger hunt for things to burn to keep your houses warm. It’s cheaper than staying in a hotel and a great way to get competitive with some friends on a snowy day.
17. Preach the snow-pocalypse. It’s become especially apparent that the White Cold Death, that fateful day of literally endless snow, is approaching. Warn your friends and family, dress in white from head to toe, and join a cult that sacrifices snowmen in hopes of being saved.
18. Chase the Abominable Snowman. Though this beast is said to inhabit Nepal and Tibet, we’ve been getting so much snow lately that he’s probably made his way to Harriton by now. Strap on your finest snow boots, grab your Yeti catching net and go hunt down that frosty foe.
19. Invest in a Snuggie. This may not immediately seem like the soundest investment, but trust us, Snuggies are the #1 tools needed for a successful snow day. We would go as far as to say that a snow day cannot be complete without some kind of blanket with armholes.
20. Make a list of activities to do on a snow day. Let’s be real, you’d have to have a lot of time on your hands to actually take this one seriously. Have fun!
