Getting to Know the Sergeant-at-Arms Candidates

It is that time of year again at Harriton High School, when a few students rise from the general population with ambitions to lead the school – or at least Student Council. As the already-spreading campaign posters suggest, some of these ambitious students have passed the primaries and are ready to show Harriton why they would be the best leaders. For Sergeant-at-Arms, we have one sophomore and one junior who you need to get to know. Each day this week, The Banner will be bringing you background information (extracurriculars, special talents, favorite foods, and fun facts) on nearly all of the candidates for each position.

Julia Marks, Junior

Julia Marks is a runner, a LAXer and a balancer. Her not-so-hidden talent is balancing things on her head, or “atop her noggin” as she puts it.  Whether it is a water bottle, a book, or this school, Julia can balance it. She also balances school, sports, and clubs as she is a member of cross-country, lacrosse, and the Environmental Club, and tries her hardest to be a part of Science Club.  For her favorite food, she cannot decide between rice and chocolate, but she does know for sure that dolphins sleep with only half of their brain at a time and that they may even save your life if you are drowning.

Pranav Pillai, Sophomore

Scouting the right candidate for Sergeant at Arms? Perhaps an actual Boy Scout is the perfect choice. As a Scout, a member of Harriton’s Science Olympiad squad and jazz band, Pranav is a true Renaissance man. His other talents include his quests to perfect his killer jump shot and fine-tune his excellent cooking skills.  His favorite kind of food is Indian food, and he hopes to open his own restaurant sometime in the future.

From president to sergeant-at-arms, The Banner has you covered on candidate information. Stay tuned on these interesting personalities through this week until the votes next Friday.
