Your Summer Vacation…Solved

As the school year is coming to a close, families are either all set for summer or frantically trying to find the best way to make their summer unforgettable. These four suggestions of American experiences might help your family make its decision.

For Beach Bums: Get tan in Fort Lauderdale: If you would rather spend your summer tanning on the beach, head to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. With dozens of hotels right on the beach, and a central strip with local diners, cute shops, and fun water activities, Fort Lauderdale is the perfect summer vacation spot. When you are looking for a meal, try the H2O Café, 3030 Ocean, or Hot & Soul.  If you are feeling adventurous, try water skiing, parasailing, or paddleboarding; if not, lie on the beach with your favorite book and pass the day getting beautifully tan.

For Thrillseekers: Hike along Sedona’s trails: Looking for a more adventurous and athletic vacation? Trek the trails of Sedona, Arizona. With towering red, jagged rocks, Sedona is said to be one the most beautiful destinations in America. For a moderate hike, try the Broken Arrow trail, about 4.5 miles round trip, with a great view of the giant red rocks. For a more extreme hike that passes under Cathedral Rock, one of the most gorgeous views in Sedona, try the Templeton Trail, 9.2 miles round trip. Looking for more thrill than an average hike? Schedule a Pink Jeep Tour and swerve across rocky plains to experience terror and excitement like you have never felt before, wondering if you will topple off the cliff at any moment.

For National Travelers: Give San Francisco a visit: If you want to travel farther away, journey to the West Coast to visit the beautiful city of San Francisco. Taking a public bus or the cable cars may be your best option to navigate your way around the city’s many one-way streets. Spend a day at Pier 39, visiting the aquarium and eating great food, and visit Alcatraz for the day, but beware of sharks! Walk along the Golden Gate Bridge, and visit the San Francisco Zoo, the largest one in the United States with over 250 different species of animals. If you’re interested in great food, try Bar Tartine, ICHI Sushi, or State Bird Provisions.

For Everyone: Take a deeper look into the City of Brotherly Love: We live near Philadelphia, but have you ever actually visited all of our historical monuments, cool museums, and great shopping? I suggest staying at a hotel for a couple of nights and exploring our city. Take a day off from your electronics and learn interesting information about our beautiful Philly aboard a Ride the Ducks tour, the car that magically turns into a boat. Visit the Eastern State Penitentiary, which will give you the creeps even though it is not Halloween. Take a family stroll along Kelly Drive and have a picnic by the Schuylkill River, or get some exercise on a long bike ride! And for those who can never get enough shopping, spend a day in the Philadelphia Premium Outlets amidst great clothes and sweet discounts.

Summer is the time to make memories, relax, and get a little bit outside of your comfort zone. Use these ideas to let go of the school year and let the fun and relaxation of summer consume you.
