Haverford Du Jour Soon to Be White Dog Café
Nouvelles du jour, or news of the day, located in Haverford Square, will soon become the third White Dog Cafe.
DuJour, translating to “of the day” centers their menu around daily specials of soups, salads, and sandwiches. Though the Haverford location is being replaced, DuJour can be found on Market Street in Philadelphia. They also provide catering services.
The White Dog menu consists of whole, organic ingredients, most of which are sustainably grown on local farms within 50 miles of the restaurant’s location. This Haverford location will mark the third restaurant, joining those in Wayne and University City, Philadelphia.
Founded by Judy Wicks, a social activist, the cafe’s goal is to serve the community. Beginning as a small coffee and muffin shop, the company has grown into a full-fledged restaurant with three locations. Judy, however, made a conscious decision to limit the business’ expansion as she didn’t want to lose the sense of community she had created within her restaurant. In 2009, Judy sold the cafe to Marty Grims in order to focus herself entirely on her humanitarian and social efforts. Her influence however, is not lost. She remains a part of the business team to ensure that her sustainable methods remain.
This upcoming White Dog Cafe will meet the same standards Judy has set for the previous locations. Though DuJour will be gone, the White Dog will fill the same niche – providing high-quality food and an interesting menu. Locally-sourced ingredients and a good social mission is a bonus!
