Weekly Seasonal: Frame Chalkboard

SeasonPic1

Crafting is one of my favorite things to do. It’s fun, eases stress and gives you the opportunity to make a bunch of cool things for your room, your friends, or any other occasion. This week, I made a frame chalkboard and it turned out great. It takes two days to make, but is super easy and only requires about an hour of your time. You can write a cute Fall quote on the chalkboard, or reminders and notes to keep you on task.

All you need are the following supplies, which can be found at Michael’s Arts and Crafts or any other art/craft store:

  • 1 picture frame
  • Black chalkboard paint
  • Chalk
  • Foam brushes or paint brushes
  • Ribbons (optional)

To make your chalkboard, first take the glass out of the frame and set up newspaper to avoid a mess. Using a foam or regular paintbrush, cover the glass with the black chalkboard paint with horizontal lines. Paint one coat at a time, waiting at least one hour in between each coat. The tutorial that I used recommended only two coats, but the paint was still translucent after two so I ended up painting three coats. After the paint completely covers the glass, you have to wait 24 hours before you can use chalk on it so the paint can cure. Once the paint sets in, before writing, condition the board by rubbing chalk all over it then rubbing it off. Write whatever you want on your board and have fun! I just wrote “Hello Fall!” and drew a pumpkin, but I will be updating it regularly. Enjoy!
