On Wednesday, December 7 another lawsuit was filed against Lower Merion School District connected to the webcams on the school laptops. The suit was filed by Paige Robinson, the older sister of the original plaintiff, Blake Robbins.
Robinson’s attorney, Mary Elizabeth Bogan, wrote in the court filing: “In or about April 2010, Plaintiff discovered from a deposition given by Lindy (Lynn) Matsko, the Assistant Vice Principal, that Defendants possessed images of Plaintiff, including, but not limited to, while she was in the bathroom, or in the nude, or partially dressed or sleeping or in her bedroom or in a compromised state,” This suit is being filed two years after the original law suit.
The district addressed this issue in its official statement: “The District views this suit as the epitome of an attempted money-grab and a complete waste of tax dollars. The Complaint is deceptive and misleading, relying on excerpts from a deposition transcript that have been edited to omit key words. A full reading of the complete excerpts – which are included as an attachment to the Complaint — makes this quite clear. A thorough, exhaustive investigation – under supervision of the United States District Judge Jan DuBois, the FBI, and the United States Attorney – determined that no one ever saw a compromising image of Ms. Robbins or anyone else. Indeed, the investigation did not recover any images of Ms. Robbins.
It should also be noted that this complaint comes nearly two years after the original case was filed. It appears Ms. Robbins simply waited to turn 18 so she could attempt to obtain a payout of her own from LMSD taxpayers. The District will vigorously defend its position and the taxpayers of this community.”
According to Bogan the suit is more than a plea for money and she explained: “The timing of this was really a decision made by Ms. Robbins and due to the sensitivity of the subject matter she made the decision as she did.”
When asked to comment the Harriton administration declined, and asked that we refer to the district statement.
