23 Chinese Children Injured
Just hours before the shooting in Connecticut last Friday, 23 children were stabbed with a knife in a Chinese elementary school. Police have said this tragedy is possibly a result of the doomsday predictions.
Suspect Min Yongjun is currently being held accountable for the stabbing. Although none of the children died, they are all wounded.
Police continuously have to reassure Chinese citizens to disregard the rumors of the world ending at the end of the month. According to Epoch Times, Yongjun told the Communist Party-backed newspaper, The Global Times, “I learned from the media two years ago that killing children would get me on TV.”
With all of the rumors about the world ending, authorities in China have arrested at least 93 people who were spreading information about the Mayan calendar.
This was not the first attack on Chinese children. In 2012, a man with a knife killed 9 people, 7 of them children. A few months after, a man, again with a knife, killed three kindergartners.
Other analysts have come to the conclusion that these acts of violence are a result of anger towards the Communist Party, and the growing gap between the wealthy and poor.
Despite Yongjun’s intentions, the alleged end of the year based on the Mayan calendar is approaching. While authorities in China are doing their best to keep everything under control, rumors continue to spread, and more acts of violence could unfortunately happen again soon.
