This Thursday, October 9th, there will be Quidditch tryouts for all houses at 2:45 PM on the softball field behind the school. Slytherin captain, Nick Johnson, said “[Quidditch] is easily one of the most, if not the most, exciting and fun events that student council sponsors.”

The game will be on October 30th, just before Halloween– so dress up in your Hogwarts House garb and watch the Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin teams compete for the gold.

The captains for the teams are Sarah DePillis for Gryffindor, Maura Henderson for Hufflepuff, Emily Rush for Ravenclaw, and Nick Johnson for Slytherin. Last year, Slytherin won a close victory, in overtime, over Gryffindor.

Harriton’s tradition of Quidditch started four years ago, when the first quidditch game was held indoors to escape the cold. However, holding the event indoors caused a great mess with some violence, leading administration to ban the sport.

Yet, student council was able to revive Quidditch last year, and is excited to be hosting it again this year. While plans for a snitch (as in a golden snitch, worth 150 points) were cancelled as a result of people not flying and not being two inch spheres, the Quidditch game last year was a success, raising more than one thousand dollars to support local causes.
