The Carrier Deal

President-elect Donald Trump has made many claims and promises regarding his plan for a “better” America. Although he will not assume the office until January 20, he has announced plans for his presidency. One of his most recent and more controversial actions was attempting to stop the Carrier Corporation, a subsidiary of United Technologies, from moving jobs to Mexico as it had originally planned. Trump’s campaign was heavily focused on bringing jobs back to the United States, going so far as promising to be “the greatest jobs president that God ever created.”¹ He has also promised to create at least twenty-five million new jobs. That is undoubtedly a lofty goal

Trump has been working to stop more than two thousand jobs from being moved to Mexico in an attempt to keep America’s job market strong. Recently, Carrier and Trump reached a compromise regarding their proposed job relocation. Donald Trump has also promised to reverse trade deals, such as the North American Free Trade Agreement.²

While many of Trump’s supporters and allies support him throughout this process, others have spoken out against him. Sarah Palin, for example, has continuously supported Trump’s campaign throughout the election, but she is now speaking against Trump’s Carrier deal. Palin went so far as to refer to the deal as “crony capitalism.”³
