Restaurant Review: Not Your Average Joe’s

For our newest restaurant review, we visited Not Your Average Joe’s, located in Suburban Square.

The setting of the restaurant was extremely versatile. NYAJ can be the location for anything from a fancy dinner date (for high schoolers) to lunch with a group of friends after a half day. Part of this versatility comes from the fact that NYAJ is essentially divided into two sections – a louder, more friendly bar area with tables to eat and a more formal and intimate dining area.

The service was impressive, as we were helped promptly and our waiter was incredibly accommodating. He provided us with ample rolls to start our meal and never let our glasses go below half full. Judging solely on service and atmosphere, NYAJ knocks it out of the park with 5 out of 5 stars for a high school student.

However, the food was average at best. The cheesesteak egg rolls (only two per order) were small and looked like they had been pre-frozen.  Their food quality receives a  2.5 out of 5 stars.

Our table of six senior guys were also shocked to see such small portion sizes. The pizzas were not very large, and the nachos were served on only six large tortilla chips.

In addition, the food to price ratio is steep for most students: for a full meal, you are looking at about $16-$18 per person.

If you are looking for a full meal for the right price, unfortunately you will not find it at NYAJ.

But the place was redeeming enough that if you need to stop for a quick bite to eat in Suburban Square and your options are limited, Not Your Average Joe’s isn’t the worst place to go. Overall, we would advise Harriton couples to try NYAJ out for a fancy date night but not for a casual meal with a group of friends.
