Coming up this Thursday 1/30, Friday 1/31 and Saturday 2/1 is HTC’s winter production of two short plays: The American Dream and The Lottery. These two dramas are both intriguing and thought-provoking.

The American Dream, written by Edward Albee, is a one-act satire on American family life and the archetype of “the American dream.” It includes a demanding mother (Dani Ochroch), passive father (Seth Silverman), a hysterical grandmother (Emily Goldenberg), as well as two visitors (Shana Herman and Ben Seltzer) who change the family’s life.

The next show, The Lottery, based on the short story by Shirley Jackson, contains a larger cast and a startling message. This story discusses the excitement that comes before the drawing of the lottery in a small rural town. The main family in this play includes Bill and Tess Hutchison (Emily Goldenberg and Nolan Gardner) as they get ready for the drawing.  This show involves younger actors, who are students from Welsh Valley and even younger.

Both of these shows have such inspiring and unique messages that audiences will surely enjoy. Everyone involved in the plays have spent much time on the plays, and really hope that many people can come. Emma Seymour, one of the Heads of the Costumes Department, says, “These shows are exciting and thought-provoking. Everyone should come out and see them.”
