Euphoria Davis
On Tuesday November 6, President Barack Obama was elected to his second term in office; I couldn’t be happier. I sat on my couch with my eyes glued to the TV throughout the night, and watched the poll results from each state come in.
Early in the night, Mitt Romney took the lead both in electoral college numbers and the popular vote. This small bump in the road crushed my hopes and brought down my spirits, although I believed that the good people of these United States were going to make the right choice. At around 11:00 p.m., my prayers were answered. Barack Obama was announced as the projected winner of Ohio. He now had the 270 Electoral College votes that were needed to secure four more years of presidency.
I felt some of the same joy and safety that I had felt four years ago in hearing that Barack Obama would be the president. The same feeling that, for the next few years, the country truly had a chance.
With Barack Obama’s reelection, Obamacare will stay in effect and millions of Americans will now have the health coverage that they need. As someone with chronic allergies and migraines, I am worrying about how I will pay for my medicine when I am on my own. This should be the least of my problems now that Obama is in office again.
Barack Obama has greatly improved the state of the country and I know that he will continue to over the next few years. It is even more amazing to think of all that he has accomplished given the sad state the country was in as he entered office back in 2008. I also feel better with four more years of Barack Obama because he cares about us as equal human beings. Mitt Romney and many other GOP politicians have said statements that concern me on how life as a woman would be if Mitt Romney were to be elected.
The campaign, including election night, was tough and extremely close, but I know that the best candidate was elected. The United States electoral system is an amazing and beautiful thing and I can’t wait for the day where I can be a part of it.
