Boys’ Ice Hockey Defeats Radnor in Close Battle
The Harriton boys’ ice hockey team faced off against the Radnor Raiders on Thursday night, hoping to earn their first Central League win of the season. The Rams would not be disappointed, but they did have to fight hard to earn their win.
The Rams were quickly reminded that they were playing a strong opponent as the Raiders scored two minutes into the game. However, it was not long before assistant captain Sam Kirby tied the game.
As the first period progressed, Will DeVerter managed to score twice, while goalie Alex Krauss frustrated Radnor’s shooters. At the close of the first period, Harriton was up 3-1.
The Rams kept their intensity in the second period, and Kirby was able to score again less than a minute after the period began. Most of this period consisted of hard-fought hockey, but without reward for either team until Radnor scored as the period’s remaining time dwindled.
As the game entered the third period, Harriton was leading 4-2, but with Radnor threatening that lead.
Two minutes into the third period, Radnor scored a goal, putting them only one behind the Rams. With a new sense of urgency, Harriton battled for the goal to put the game out of Radnor’s reach.
This did not come until late in the period when captain Skyler Thomas was finally able to score. The Raiders did not give up, though. Just two minutes later, they scored yet again. In a move of last minute desperation, Radnor pulled their goalie. This tactic failed and Jake Gross was able to score on the empty net, securing the Rams a 6-4 victory.
This win moved the Rams’ record to 1-5 in the central league and 2-5 overall. They hope that it will ignite a winning streak as they face Garnet Valley in their next matchup.
