Season Recap: Boys’ Ice Hockey
The boys’ ice hockey team’s season ended on February 22 after a playoff loss to Ridley, who would go on to win the Central League title. The Rams finished their season with a record of 4-12-1. Although it ended with a disappointing loss, this season was a success story for the Rams, laden with milestones.
This year’s Rams was the first in team history to advanced to the playoffs. Even though they did not win the playoff game, advancing to that stage was an accomplishment unto itself. That feat was made even sweeter by the fact that in qualifying for the playoffs, the Rams eliminated their rival, Lower Merion, and Strath Haven, whom they defeated in order to advance, from the playoff stage.
Not only did Harriton make the playoffs for the first time, they also defeated Lower Merion for the first time. When the two teams divided from a united Harriton-LM squad several years ago, the Aces have come away victorious after each confrontation, until this year. That victory combined with Lower Merion’s failure to make the playoffs demonstrate that Harriton has become the dominating hockey team in the district.
This was the final season for seniors Patrick Foulk and Jesse Davis, both of whom had been members of the team since their freshman years. This season was particularly special for them as they were able to finally reap the rewards of four years of hard work: the victory against Lower Merion and the playoff appearance, which no generation of Harriton hockey players had experienced before.
Under the leadership of captain Skyler Thomas and assistant captain Sam Kirby, the Rams hope to expand on the success of this season and establish themselves as a power in the Central League, maybe even coming away with their first playoff victory.
