Boys’ Tennis Update: Rams on Track to Make Playoffs

The Harriton Boys’ Tennis team is on track to make the team district playoffs for the first time in several years. Let’s take a look at the season so far.

The team began the season with a crucial 5-2 victory over out of league opponent Lower Moreland. The Rams followed up with convincing 7-0 wins against Central League opponents Ridley and Marple Newtown, respectively.

Due to rain and snow postponements, the team then went through a rough stretch, having to face league powerhouses Conestoga, Radnor, and the three time defending state champions, Lower Merion. The Rams suffered a tough defeat against Conestoga 7-0, but started to gain a little bit of momentum, taking two out of seven against Radnor and one out of seven against Lower Merion.

Later in that week, the team fully rebounded with an emphatic 7-0 win against another formidable out of league opponent in West Chester Henderson. The Rams continued their winning ways with another resounding 7-0 win against Haverford High.

Yet again, Harriton would emerge victorious over another out of league opponent in Central Bucks East, 7-0. The momentum from this match was crucial, as the team would face a league opponent of similar strength in Strath Haven, who had blocked the Rams’ path to the playoffs for the past few seasons.

The Rams came out with an incredible 5-2 victory against Strath Haven, sweeping all four doubles positions, while 3rd singles player Jay Ramaswamy played great tennis to defeat a Division 3 committed tennis player.

With a strong singles lineup featuring Ramaswamy and senior co-captains Samarth Gowda and Andrew Kofsky, and improved doubles play from Bruce Sacchetta/Matthieu Benoit-Cattin and Max Ostrem/Peter Rickels, the team will hopefully be able to reach the postseason.
