Harriton Choral Concert a Huge Success
On Sunday, December 15th, the stage was set, the lights were lit, and excitement buzzed through the air as everyone waited eagerly for the winter choral concert. With an arsenal of songs under its belt, the Harriton Concert Choir, under the direction of Mr. Jason Bizich, kicked things off with the songs With a Voice of Singing, Danny Boy, and Riversong (a Celtic Celebration). From there, the Freshman Chorus, conducted by student teacher Ms. Maggie Nice and with the assistance of Mr. Bizich in the Baritone section, chimed in with their songs Antiphonal Deck the Hall, Alleluia Canon, and Ye Shall Have a Song. Next it was the Chorale’s turn. With the help of a symphony, the group took upon the ever-challenging Vivaldi Gloria, which was, for them, a seven-part piece. With solos from Ms. Maggie Nice, Olivia Prendergast, and Meredith Reid leading the Chorale, the audience was left cheering and applauding with true amazement.
After a brief intermission, in came Harriton’s new vocal ensemble, the Harriton Men’s Quartet, singing a beautifully executed What a Wonderful World. Next came Vocal Jazz, a vocal ensemble that sings jazz compositions without any instrumental assistance. Singing Swingle Song, the group’s lively singing and abundant energy was quite apparent and left the audience more than pleased. Following Vocal Jazz, came Harriton’s student-run, and only, a Cappella group: Pitch Please. Run by Sophie Siegel, Emily Goldenberg, and Ben Appel, the group sang a beautifully arranged One Day. With intricate harmonies and excellent dynamics, the group had the audience clapping along and cheering wildly. To close up the concert, the Concert Choir came back on to sing their three closing songs: Al Shlosha D’varim, Under Winter Moon, and Everybody Rejoice (From the Wiz).
Overall, the concert was a great success. Said Mr. Bizich, “…one of Harriton’s best concerts ever.” The audience left happy, amazed, and more than pleased. The Harriton vocal department looks forward to many more successful concerts to come.
