Ram of the Week: Aiste Balciunaite
If it is not clear by now that the Rams of the Week are pretty much cooler than your average Harritonite, (not to say each and everyone of us is not special), then here is what we have to say. Harriton is full of characters; the good, the bad, the tall, the sad (rhyming is something we do). It is our job as heralds of the Ram of the Week to hand pick the most spectacularly underappreciated people and make them known to you, the Harriton community. And who knows? Some day their sheer greatness may be their claim to fame. They then can say that they were discovered by us, and can fully appreciate the illustrious title that is ‘Ram of the Week.’ So please, if you are just dying to share the name of a person whom you believe to be Ram of the Week potential, just email us at [email protected], and let us know! Don’t forget to follow us on twitter at @Ramsoftheweek.
It is surprising how Aiste Balciunaite does not have her own fan club at this point (maybe we will start one). With her extreme talent for rowing, claim to the national throne of crew, and witticism to boot, we believe Aiste is basically an all around gem. She is a sensible sweet tooth; she is Aiste!
Annika: We hear you are amazing at Crew! Why and when did you decide to start rowing?
Aiste: I started rowing freshmen year. I don’t know why, I guess it was more like, why not? Honestly I was going to quit but my parents told me I should at least try it sophomore year. At that point I found out I’m actually not that bad at it, and well at that point quitting wasn’t really an option.
Emily: Pshhh not that bad she says.
Tess: What did it feel like when you rowed your way to first place at Nationals?
Aiste: It hurt. A lot. Other than that? Well I suppose it was pretty cool.
Emily: When you are not busy being super awesome at crew, what hobbies do you enjoy?
Aiste: I read a lot, and I also like spending time outdoors (skiing in the winter, swimming in the summer). I do watch a fair amount of TV. I’m currently binge-watching Supernatural and am averaging a season a week, so you know. Oh and how could I forget cats.
Annika: You are my hero.
Tess: What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Aiste: Coffee. Or coffee with chocolate chips. They’re both amazing but I’ll go for pretty much any flavor any time.
Annika: Go to article of clothing?
Aiste: Baggy sweater. Comfort over fashion any day.
Emily: What is the meaning of life?
Aiste: Meaning? Who cares? Life’s too short to start thinking about things like that. Don’t die as long as you can, then proceed on with death. People say it’s the journey of life? It isn’t. It’s the journey to death. Just try not to be a waste of oxygen when you’re here, please. Considering the amount of things that needed to go right for you to be here, don’t ruin it by being dumb.
Tess: You speak the truth.
Annika: If you were to ask someone to prom how would you do it?
Aiste: Preferably with a question.
Tess: What is your opinion on the Bieber crisis? Should he be deported to Canada?!
Aiste: Just. Stop. Now. Please.
***cue Tess’s gasp
The amount of respect we have for this girl is off the charts. As much as we would like to know the exact details of her promposal preferences, it is true, we would go with a question too. So try not to be a waste of oxygen, and befriend Aiste today!
