Mr. Harriton 2014: David Bernstein and Ethan Wolfe
Today we bring you two more exclusive interviews with the fabulous contestants for the Mr. Harriton crown. David and Ethan are both seniors and are super awesome. We cannot wait to see them dance their way to (hopefully) a victory!
David Bernstein, Senior
What is a day in your life like?
Wake up, get ready, drive to school, realize I’m not wearing pants, go back home, put on pants, drive back to school. Then I go to class, finish up the school day, and head over to Mr. Harriton practice, where I dance my heart out. After that I usually go to swim practice, try not to drown, and then head home and eat everything in the fridge. Then I’ll do my homework and fall asleep with my dogs.
Why did you try out for Mr. Harriton?
After seeing the performances by everyone last year and hearing how much fun it was, I decided I would give it a try. I really didn’t think I was going to get in to be honest.
What is your favorite thing about Mr. Harriton so far?
It’s been really cool getting to know everyone thats involved. I’ve made a lot of new friends and everyone is really nice. Learning to dance has also been awesome. I never really knew how to dance before Mr. Harriton, and now, I still don’t, but at least I’m not terrible.
Who is a competitor to watch out for (other than you)?
I’d say Evan. You gotta watch out for him because he is constantly hitting people, he knows no mercy.
If you could choose the theme what would it be?
If I could choose the theme I think it would be cool to do a movie/film theme, but time travel is good too, if your into that.
Why are you the next Mr. Harriton?
Try and find another contestant as talented as me…you can’t. No but seriously, this year’s Mr. Harriton is filled with 9 talented guys that are each more than qualified to be the next Mr. Harriton. It is going to be a great show to watch, and I hope everyone has a good time.
Personal Statement?
The show is going to be amazing and everyone should show up. You don’t want to miss it.
Ethan Wolfe, Senior
What is a day in your life like?
Try waking up. That didn’t really count as waking up. Try again. It was a little better that time, but not quite good enough. Third time’s the charm. Fall onto the floor. It’s 6:40, and there’s ten minutes until the bus arrives. Put on your clothes inside-out. Try again. Think about a massive breakfast. Go eat what is actually a very small breakfast. Miss the bus. Beg your mother for mercy and a car ride. Go to school. School is uneventful. Come home. Think about taking a quick 20-minute nap. Go to sleep. Wake up 2 hours later. You missed dinner. Think about practicing trumpet. Forget to actually practice. Think about homework. Eh, you’ll do it tomorrow, you’ll have enough time on the bus. Besides, there’s no way you’ll miss it this time. Stay up 2 hours later than is necessary. Go to sleep. Repeat ad infinitum.
Why did you try out for Mr. Harriton?
This is a really good question, because I still have no idea. Now that I’m in the competition, I could totally give you a list of reasons why I’m glad I auditioned, but at the time I had never even seen Mr. Harriton before. My friends were all encouraging me to do it, so I did. I didn’t even really know there was dancing. That would have been nice to know, actually…
Do you have any talents that cannot be performed?
I have a couple talents that probably could be performed, but really shouldn’t be. Exhibit A: Justin tells me I have a really good QWOP impression.
What is your favorite thing about Mr. Harriton so far?
I have so much fun with the other contestants. I didn’t know half of them when we had our first practice, but they’re all so much fun and I’m really glad to know them all now. Sometimes I have to remind myself that we’re actually competing.
Who is a competitor to watch?
Honestly, I’m really worried about Justin and Chris, mostly because all three of us started as miserable dancers. If I can shimmy better than them by the show, I will have exceeded my own expectations (winning would be nice too, though).
If you could choose the theme what would it be?
I think a great theme would just be dinosaurs. Like, what if everyone just got in dinosaur costumes? We could basically get rid of the dancing and just do a giant Jurassic Park brawl, where the last dinosaur standing wins the Mr. Harriton crown. Maybe I’m biased. I’d just love to be in a triceratops costume for an hour and a half.
Why are you the next Mr. Harriton?
I am the next Mr. Harriton because I have a birthmark that looks like a ram on my left calf. Some might say it’s a sign of my impending victory. Others might say it’s blatantly made up, and those people would be right. Really though, if you can believe the birthmark thing, then why not believe that I’m the next Mr. Harriton? There are stranger things to trust in.
Personal Statement?
Listen kids. Don’t do drugs. Don’t take pictures of your pet for snapchat any more than once a week. Don’t wear plaid shorts, a striped shirt, and sandals with socks at the same time. I’ve tried it, it’s wildly unpopular with the ladies. Learn from my mistakes. Also, on February 28th, make sure you come to Mr. Harriton and put your unquestionable support behind the only contestant with a tattoo of Jack Black. It’s right next to the ram.
