Sabrina’s Café vs. Ardmore Station: The Only Question that Matters

Stuffed Challah French Toast at Sabrina’s Café

This might be the best rivalry the school has seen in a long time. It is the Main Line mainstay versus the new kid on the block; the chain from the city versus the one of a kind suburban café. Our rivals may be LM (sort of), but at the end of a long week, Rams and Aces alike go home and ponder the same thing: where am I getting brunch tomorrow? So, here to help you make that decision is a comprehensive breakdown of the two best breakfasts in town, Sabrina’s Café and Ardmore Station Café.

Breakfast: The cornerstone of both cafés breakfasts’ is the stuffed challah French toast. Sabrina’s stuffs its with tangy farmer’s cheese and vanilla bean syrup, while Station offers a variety of choices from peanut butter-banana-Nutella to s’mores filling. Station certainly offers more choices, but when it comes down to the best tasting option, Sabrina’s wins out over the delicious but overly sweet options at Station.

Elsewhere on the menu, savory egg-oriented options are offered at both establishments. With a Mexican focus, Sabrina’s menu is definitely more eclectic (the “Barking Chihuahua” is a must try). Yet Ardmore Station’s tasty steak and eggs burrito and breakfast bagels are homey choices that beat out the flair of Sabrina’s dishes.

Winner: Ardmore Station

Lunch: Sabrina’s is pretty hard to beat here. The signature chicken cutlet is superb, served South Philly-style with sharp provolone, spinach, and long hots. Other sandwiches like the pulled pork sandwich and salmon burger are not only great, but come in affordable combos with sides of fries and either a soup or salad. Station’s lunch options are not bad (the chicken cheesesteak is especially good), but they do not match the expansive options available at Sabrina’s.

Winner: Sabrina’s Café

Service: This section really tests both restaurants. Sunday mornings, both places are absolutely slammed with patrons. Dealing with cranky grandparents, rowdy teens, and everything in between, the wait-staffs at both places do seriously good jobs. The kitchen at Sabrina’s, however, can be prohibitively slow. At peak hours, it can take almost two hours to get in and out of Sabrina’s. While their large amount of customers does not help, Station generally serves the same volume and can be much more efficient.

Winner: Ardmore Station

Setting: Both restaurants are conveniently situated in commercial centers near SEPTA train stations. Inside though, chic décor and cute table wear (the homemade lemonade comes in mason jars) make Sabrina’s the clear winner.

Winner: Sabrina’s Café

Overall Winner: This was a really close match. Both spots serve great food, have good service, and are excellent choices for any mid-morning meal. The food at Sabrina’s has a slight edge, but their high prices and long waits, plus the homey atmosphere at Station, makes Ardmore Station the overall winner.
