Getting to Know the Presidential Candidates
Finally, what you have all been waiting for. Today we present the candidates for the future president of Harriton High School. Four junior boys are competing for the position, all qualified and ready to bring something unique to Harriton’s halls. Read on to decide with whom to cast your vote!
Jesse Bregman
Jesse Bregman hopes his “winning [ethnic] combination” of Jewish and Asian will win him Harriton’s vote for President. Beyond his unique ethnicity, he is a tchoukball all-star, member of the reigning Quidditch champions’ team (Slytherin) and plays for Harriton’s baseball team. He is also heavily involved in Swinging for Change, a nonprofit student-run organization dedicated to restoring Philadelphia-area parks, and is the founder of Krysis Clothing, a local clothing company. Jesse is not only an athlete but also a talented artist with a penchant for the cookies at Harriton.
Ben Hewitt
It seems that Ben Hewitt can really do it – lead our school, that is. As a member of TSA, Mock Trial and the Harriton Banner, Ben can handle a lot. He can dance in his room by himself, any time, any day, and when it comes to Grand Theft Auto 5, he always wins. Ben also loves anything with shrimp and considers it to be the fruit of the sea. Ben is excited about his two new dogs, Melvin and Marvin, and is hoping to help Harriton be the best it can be.
Dan Liu
Dan Liu, our current Student Council Treasurer, is very skilled at running punny campaigns (“Just Liu It,” everyone), but, as he modestly shared, he is also “decent at the violin.” He is a part of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra and Tune Up Philly, for which he teaches violin to inner city kids. Additionally, he participates in TSA, Debate, Physics Olympics and Ultimate Frisbee. Dan is co-founder of Swinging for Change and a big fan of sushi, ramen and Game of Thrones. Currently, Dan is designing a small line of clothing, called Purpose, with his friends, and he is working on a social media app.
Max Raphael
Even with both eyes closed, Max Raphael can still tie his shoes. Max runs for varsity track, and he is an officer of Stock Club and treasurer of Swinging for Change. He enjoys steak but absolutely hates that white drinkable cough medicine. He knows you know what he is talking about. His full name is Maximillian Winston Raphael – period.
