Weekly Seasonal: Mason Jar Candle Holder
After Halloween passes, festivities change from horror to joy as we approach the holidays. The leaves continue to fall, the weather gets colder, and the days get shorter, but the holiday spirit grows!
I wanted to capture the holiday spirit and the coziness that comes along with the colder seasons; I made a mason jar candle holder. When temperatures drop, I always stock up on candles to make my house homely.
This week I am showing you how to make a candle holder that will make your candle, and your house, prettier with a new decoration!
In order to make your candle holder, you will need to take a trip outside to your backyard; you’ll be collecting leaves. Pick as many leaves as you want (I used about 5, but try to pick leaves that have just fallen off the tree so they won’t crinkle and break when you add them to your mason jar.)
You will also need a mason jar (I used a smaller one, but the regular sized ones work great too), modge podge or hot glue, a small candle, and ribbons or twine that are optional.
Before you start to add leaves to the outside of your mason jar, plan out where you want your leaves to be. Be careful not to allow leaves to lean over the opening of the jar; that would be a fire hazard.
You can overlap the leaves so there is no open space, add leaves corner to corner so there is a ring of leaves around your jar, or you could even rip some leaves and collage them onto the mason jar.
Once you plan the layout for your leaves, if you are using modge podge, glue your leaves down, but also put the glue on top of the leaves to create a matte texture, and so that the leaves will not crumble and fall apart.
If you are using a hot glue gun, just glue the leaves down. Let the glue dry; both modge podge and glue guns dry very quickly. If you would like, tie ribbon or twine around the rim of the jar, just be careful that it is not near the flame of the candle. Lastly, set your candle into the jar, and light the wick!
The leaves create an orange glow to the candle, and it makes the candle as well as the room it is in much more comfortable. This DIY is really easy; it only took me about 10 minutes minus finding just the right leaves, and I will definitely be making more of these in the near future. Enjoy!
