Seasonal- Chai Hot Chocolate
As winter drags on, the temperatures continue to drop. And when it gets cold, it’s a natural human response to crave a warm glass of hot chocolate. But sometimes hot chocolate from a mix can get pretty boring, and quite frankly it’s not that healthy for you considering that the ingredients are extremely processed (although no hot chocolate is really that healthy for you).
This week, I decided to put a spin on your normal hot chocolate by adding my favorite tea—chai—and making the hot chocolate from scratch.
When I first heard of the idea of mixing chai with hot chocolate I was pretty skeptical. It just didn’t sound pleasing, but I was pleasantly surprised when it tasted fantastic! If you’ve ever had Mexican hot chocolate with a bunch of spices, the flavor is similar.
I don’t think I will ever make basic hot chocolate after this recipe. With only three ingredients and a cook time of about ten minutes, this recipe is super easy because it only has one step; not to mention it only makes one serving so you’ll have the perfect amount of hot chocolate. Next time you are craving hot chocolate, try this recipe and you will never go back to the original mix. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
1 1/8 cups of milk (of your choice); I used 2%
1 bag of chai tea
40 g of dark chocolate
Directions:
- Place all ingredients into a small pot and heat until the mixture is simmering and the chocolate has melted.
- Remove the tea bag from the mixture and serve while still warm.
