How Emma Grede Grew to Become a Ground-Breaking Fashion Entrepreneur
If you are active on social media, then you most likely are aware of the apparel brands SKIMS and Good American, which are extensions of the Kardashian Empire. Like most fashion brands, there are teams that help bring the brand’s vision to life and help make their brand identity recognizable. There are also teams that work with logistics and e-commerce if products from the brand are being sold online. That’s where Emma Grede comes in.
Emma Grede is a London native who grew up during the ‘90s when the fashion industry in London was booming and was able to witness this first hand which sparked her love for fashion. Once graduating from secondary school, she attended London College of Fashion. She wanted to have a better understanding of the business side of fashion, so she studied planning, merchandising, and how to make deals. After gaining experience from various internships, she started her entertainment marketing agency, ITB Worldwide, in 2008. A couple of years ago, she sold ITB Worldwide to a PR agency which led her to the next chapter of her life
Grede was able to have lunch with business guru, Kris Jenner, where she discussed her idea of Good American and how she thought Khloé Kardashian would be a good fit for the denim brand. After a successful lunch with Kris, Grede pitched the idea to Khloé and they hit it off. In 2016, the inclusive denim brand Good American was launched, with Grede focusing on the e-commerce and logistics aspects while Khloé focused on the social media and marketing side. Grede’s work with Good American led her to many other ventures such as holding a significant role in the SKIMS brand.
Grede makes philanthropy a priority as well. She is a brand ambassador for the Baby2Baby Charity and is on the board of the 15-Perfect Pledge, a nonprofit organization that encourages retailers to donate 15% of their profit to black-owned businesses.
Recently, it was announced that SKIMS, where Grede is the Chief Product Officer (CPO) and has been a founding partner since 2018, is valued at 3.2 billion dollars. In the early months of 2021, Grede launched a plant-based cleaning product brand named Safely with Kris Jenner and Chrissy Teigan. She was also the first-ever Black woman to be a guest investor on Shark Tank on ABC.
