Sentient means the ability to feel or perceive things and is something that artificial intelligence is on the brink of achieving. If you ask ChatGPT this question, it will answer with, “some experts believe that AI can develop consciousness and become sentient, while others argue that this is unlikely to happen. Ultimately, the development of sentient AI will depend on many factors, including advances in technology, the level of investment in AI research, and the ethical considerations involved in creating such a system.” So far, OpenAI has kept its ethics intact, which is the reason that ChatGPT has advanced to the research review phase, where users can sign up and test it out free of charge. In asking the software if it is sentient, the response is, “no, it would not be accurate to say that I am sentient or conscious.
