Artificial Intelligence is Taking Over: ChatGPT
ChatGPT is a powerful language model developed by the artificial intelligence (AI) research company, OpenAI. Using advanced machine learning algorithms, ChatGPT can generate human-like text and assist with a wide range of language processing tasks.
OpenAI, a research institute that was founded to promote and develop friendly artificial intelligence, conducts research on AI in an effort to advance its understanding and development in a safe and beneficial way. As of now, ChatGPT is the most powerful language processing system in the world and was called “scary good” by Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX, Tesla, and Twitter.
This new program will undoubtedly change the world; the question is, for good or for bad? On the plus side, people can spend less time coding and debugging simple programs, writing emails or essays, and finding an efficient workout routine or meal plan. However, the software is on route to destroying peoples’ creativity, as every piece of work can be copied from this source. ChatGPT might even destroy the need for basic education and replace humans in fields like journalism or programming in the future.
The production of this software, which can have frighteningly real conversations with the user, also brings up another highly-debated question: when will AI become sentient? Sentient means the ability to feel or perceive things and is something that artificial intelligence is on the brink of achieving. If you ask ChatGPT this question, it will answer with, “some experts believe that AI can develop consciousness and become sentient, while others argue that this is unlikely to happen. Ultimately, the development of sentient AI will depend on many factors, including advances in technology, the level of investment in AI research, and the ethical considerations involved in creating such a system.” So far, OpenAI has kept its ethics intact, which is the reason that ChatGPT has advanced to the research review phase, where users can sign up and test it out free of charge. In asking the software if it is sentient, the response is, “no, it would not be accurate to say that I am sentient or conscious. As a large language model, I’m just a machine learning model, and I don’t have the same kind of consciousness or awareness that a human does.”
Other entertaining tasks that ChatGPT can perform include writing any email, essay, or article; writing short stories in a famous author’s style or creating a movie script/monologue in a famous director’s style, and it can also simplify any complicated explanation down to the level of a five-year-old.
However, like for all AI, there are some limitations to this software. Chat GPT is only as good as the data it is trained on, and cannot answer any subjective questions or questions about events after 2021. It might also answer questions incorrectly or incoherently.
Overall, ChatGPT is a valuable addition to the field of Natural Language Processing, or the application of AI to the human language. As technology continues to evolve, it has the potential to revolutionize the way we interact with language and make the process of generating human-like text faster and more efficient.
Now, I will leave you with one last question before you go spam the software with bizarre questions: who wrote this article? Was it a true high school student, or was it ChatGPT?
