Scream Queens Review

Scream Queens is a comedy-thriller original TV series on FOX Tuesdays at 9:00p.m. The show is a combination of Pretty Little Liars meets Mean Girls meets Friday the 13th. The show was created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Fulchuk and Ian Brennan. Ryan Murphy also created Glee and American Horror Story. Scream Queens is hysterical and extremely wicked.

The show was heavily promoted during the summer. The all-star cast, Emma Roberts, Lea Michele, Keke Palmer, Abigail Breslin, Ariana Grande, and Nick Jonas, added to the anticipation of the premiere. The signing of Jamie Lee Curtis, the ‘Queen’ of the slasher Halloween movie franchise, was further proof that the show would be epic.

Emma Roberts (“American Horror Story”, “Freak Show”) plays Chanel Oberlin, a rich, selfish, ruthlessly mean college student who is the president of Kappa Kappa Tau Sorority. She has minions (more on that later). The plot involves a murderer on the loose dressed as the Red Devil, which also could be a group of murderers killing each victim in “style” targeting the sorority. The death toll mounts in each episode.

Chanel Oberlin is by far the most exhilarating character to watch. Emma Roberts is phenomenal playing this insidious queen Bee. Evil, sassy, rude, malicious, self-righteous are the milder words one could use to describe her. In addition, she is always dressed like she just walked off the runway, adding to the flamboyance of her character. It is only a matter of time before some of her best quips are quoted over and over again. “She smells like hot dog water.” “These are my minions. I don’t know their names. I don’t ‘want’ to know their names. They are known as Chanel #2, Chanel #3, Chanel #5.” Love her or hate her, Chanel is the best new character on TV.

Scream Queens is wicked, funny, and outrageous. This is a must-see roller coaster ride of a show to watch on Tuesday nights.
