Ram of The Week: Emmy Wilson!

Ram of The Week: Emmy Wilson!

This week, we bring you a brand new student to be your RAM of the week. Meet Emmy Wilson of Maryland. Her different background is enough to make her interesting in and of itself. Emmy is down to earth, funny and incredibly good natured, making conversation with her extremely enjoyable.  We sat down with Emmy to get to know her better, and we seriously recommend you do the same, because honestly, she rocks.

Harriton Banner: Since you’re new to Harriton, can you tell me why you moved here?

Emmy Wilson: I moved here from Maryland. I was born in Bryn Mawr and grew up in Wayne so my family just wanted to move back. My brother is going to Haverford Boys School, and I thought it would be fun to have a different senior year and meet new people.

HB: What’s different about Harriton?

EW: A lot. The way you guys do your scheduling. And there’s more push to go to college. We barely ever talked about college. It’s weird, I feel like I’m far behind in the college process because I never did anything. I feel like the people are kind of different. It’s super weird that you don’t have homecoming. Maryland Spirit Week is the biggest week of the year; you went all out. Here it just wasn’t like that. You guys do Prom different too. Your junior prom you wear short dresses. And randomly girls are holding bouquets. We held corsages.

HB: Yeah there was some controversy over that.

EW: When I was a freshman I went to prom and this guy gave me literally a bouquet but for my hand. It was a giant corsage. I literally ripped it off. He was weird. I couldn’t get out of that one.

HB: Who is your favorite teacher so far?

EW: Mr. Olster. He is more relaxed than other teachers. He’s funny and he tries to relate to us.

HB: Oh nice, give him a shout out in the Banner. What’s your favorite season and why?

EW: Summer. I like the beach and I like to sleep in and be with friends and you can do that in the summer.

HB: Wait, did you live near the beach?

EW: No, it was like three hours to the beach.

HB: What’s your favorite fictional character?

EW: Chuck Bass.

HB: Do you relate to him?

EW: No, I’m just in love with him.

HB: What’s a movie you loved as a little kid?

EW: I don’t know why but I watched Lady and the Tramp like every day.

HB: You play soccer right?

EW: Yeah, but I tore my achilles and I’m out for the season. I had to get surgery!

HB: Wow, that’s scary. What else do you do other than soccer?

EW: I like to go back to Maryland as much as possible. My sister lives there, so I always have a place to stay, and it’s nice to see old friends. But I haven’t been able to drive because of my foot. I’m also in the stock club. But that’s not fun.

HB: If you could start a club what would you start?

EW: That’s a hard question, how would you answer that? I would come up with a talking club, I like to talk. Conversation Club.

HB: What is something that people like but you just don’t agree with?

EW: Taylor Swift. I hate her.

HB: *Gasps*

EW: She just annoys me.

HB: Okay. What is something that other people don’t like but you do?

EW: I like to be alone a lot. Everyone would rather be with people, but I’d rather not be with people.

HB: What is your ultimate worst scenario?

EW: Being raped, or burned. I don’t understand how you could drown. Like how do you drown? Just tread water or something.  Or losing my phone. I’m like addicted to it.

HB: What’s the most awkward thing that happened to you since you came here?

EW: The worst thing that happened in high school was I was walking in the hallway and I tripped and fell in front of this huge group of boys. I was so nervous to fall that  I tried to grab onto the lockers and hold myself up. It was a disaster. But nothing that embarassing has happened to me here, I’ve been very cautious.

HB: That’s a good outlook. What is your dream in life?

EW: I want to travel the world. I want to go on a safari in Africa and see everything I can.

Emmy is easy to talk to and easy to laugh with. Even if you have just met her, it feels like you have known her for much longer. Hopefully, you now appreciate her as much as we do, and are inspired to befriend this fantastic addition to to the Harriton community! Welcome to Philly Emmy!
