A Quick Chat with Emma Danz: Head of Lights for HTC

A Quick Chat with Emma Danz: Head of Lights for HTC

If you think of someone that puts an immense amount of effort into her role as head of lights, then you are thinking of Emma Danz.

The Harriton Banner was lucky enough to sit down with Emma to talk about her new role as a head of lights in HTC, and to discuss more information regarding the upcoming Fall show, “Working.”

HB: What is your favorite part about being head of lights and what are the challenges you face on a daily basis?

Emma: My favorite part about being head of lights something that not a lot of people know about, and it is fun to have people get excited about it when you share. I like teaching people new things as well. Of course there are several challenges to being a head. Something that can be a little hard to manage is that there aren’t a lot of people in the department, which makes it harder as you have to maximize roles for not a lot of people.

HB: How did you become head of lights?

Emma: The old head of lights, Sam Eisner, who graduated last year, emailed me asking if I was interested in being head of lights.

I was like, “Yeah!”  She said that she would need to interview me.

It sounded so cool, and then at the end of the interview she asked, “Well you aren’t afraid of heights are you?”

I said “No.” But I am actually terrified of heights.

Then, the first time I had to go on the catwalk, I was terrified.

Sam asked, “ Are you ok?”

I was like, “No! I’m actually terrified of heights.”

One time, Sam was laughing wondering why I didn’t tell her I was afraid of heights, but I said that I didn’t say anything because I wanted to be the head of lights so badly. So my motto is basically “I am terrified of heights, but not lights!”

Now however, I have in fact gotten over my fear which is probably a good thing.

HB: How do you feel about preparing foe this show?

Emma:  It is going well, although you always run into problems where certain lights just don’t work. We are way ahead of where we were last year at this time, which is great. I am hoping that this show will be cued before it starts. Prospects are definitely looking good though.

Emma is thrilled to be part of the show. Despite some difficulties she may face, she is up for the challenge and is always ready for success.
