Sherlock: Season 3 Review

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is beloved and well-known series.  The title character runs around solving mysteries with his sidekick, John Watson, while wearing his iconic deerstalker hat and smoking his pipe — somehow always getting everything right. The modern adaption of Sir Conan Doyle’s classic tales debuted in 2010 on BBC, starring Benedict Cumberbatch (Star Trek Into Darkness) and Martin Freeman (The Hobbit).  The second season ended with the biggest cliffhanger that fans (who were not familiar with the original stories) were certainly not expecting.

Season three returned in 2014 with “The Empty Hearse,” which was full of surprises and plot twists.  Not lacking in any of his clever remarks, Sherlock follows a trail of countless crimes before stumbling on a reason why he needs to return to Baker Street — to stop a secret terrorist attack on London.

The rest of the season does not falter in action, as Sherlock worms his way through every street, picking up every clue and observing every person in the blink of an eye.  Just as interesting and anxiety-inducing as the first episode, “The Sign of Three” and “His Last Vow” captivated viewers with their respective mysteries.  Everyone who watches just wants to know what is going on in Sherlock’s head. This sociopathic genius is always on the move, and the turbo-speed gears in his head are nonstop.

The directors of Sherlock revealed season four is set to debut in December. But until then, the fans of this thriller/mystery show must thrive on what season three has offered them — Sherlock being an awesome detective and the host of a brain no one will completely understand.
