Captain America: the Winter Soldier Review

The best way to end the week and get pumped for the weekend is to watch an action movie. My personal favorite? Superhero movies. Call me silly, but there is nothing more thrilling than watching the fighting, romance, and world-saving that twists and turns the plot of every superhero movie that is worth its weight. Which is why, as a person who was not the biggest fan of Captain America: The First Avenger, its sequel, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, was a pleasant surprise.

After spending sixty-five years as a frozen “Capsicle,” Captain America is back in action and struggling to adapt to a modern world (post all of the events that occurred in The Avengers). Within the first ten minutes, you will be embroiled in the action of a traitorous plot against S.H.I.E.L.D., attempted and successful assassinations, and an enemy you thought was destroyed — Hydra. But that is only the tip of the iceberg, as the Cap, Black Widow, and ex-military officer Sam Wilson (Falcon) are forced to flee and find out the truth behind the mysterious figure shadowing them at every step. Some dark secrets are sure to be revealed about this “Winter Soldier.”

Mixed in with the action, there are some heartbreakingly tender moments, so make sure to bring a box of tissues to the theatre alongside your popcorn. All in all, the movie is an excellent mix of danger, action, excitement, and sadness. As the plot zigzags you will be both broken and exhilarated as the history of Marvel is changed forever.

P.S. Stay for both the after-movie and the post-credits to see a preview of where Marvel is heading next, movie-wise. If you are a fan of the comic books as well as the movies, this should prove to be especially interesting!
