“Stranger Things” Review

Netflix has done it again with the sci-fi “Stranger Things”. One can’t help obsessing over the streaming-service’s newest binge-worthy craze. Plan on doing a marathon through the first season and being tempted to watch it a second time.

The show appeals to all ages, and there is something for everyone to relate to. From the allusions to 70s and 80s hits such as E.T., Goonies and Poltergeist, to the four best friends riding their bikes across town or playing Dungeons and Dragons, this show is a classic throwback to a Spielberg-esque supernatural coming-of-age mystery.

When Will goes missing, his three friends Mike, Dustin and Lucas are determined to find him. As they search, they come across a mysterious girl named Eleven, and suddenly, nothing is as it seems; a parallel universe, the “upside down”, alternate dimensions. What is going on? What happened to Will?

The adults provide an additional layer to the series, encapsulating their panicky disposition as they frantically search for Will. The pursuit for will is made heartbreaking by strong performances from Winona Ryder as Will’s mom, Joyce Byers, and David Harbour chief of police chief Jim Hopper. Prepare yourself for countless frights, and second guessing everything that happens.

Stranger Things was the most talked about show of the summer, and with good reason: It leaves the viewer in constant suspense, especially as the final episode ends and questions remain. Luckily, “Stranger Things” has been renewed for a second season and will air in 2017. “Stranger Things” is a sci-fi show at its best!
