Tribeca Film Festival Creates #6SecFilms Vine Competition

In January, the creators of Twitter brought a new application to apple products, Vine. This application allows users to create six-second looping videos to post on their Vine, Twitter, Facebook feeds. And although Vine seems to be pretty popular around the Harriton halls, it goes way beyond the Lower Merion community, and even made it to this year’s Tribeca Film Festival.

Tribeca Film Festival acknowledged the fame of Vine by creating a #6SECFILM Competition powered by Vine. They launched this campaign back on March 19, and recently selected the winners.

The competition worked by having Vine creators make these short flims in four categories: #GENRE, #AUTEUR, #ANIMATE, and #SERIES. The Tribeca Film Festival’s team of jurors chose their favorite Vines. Among the members of this team was “The King of Vine”, Adam Goldberg.

Creators had to abide by the following steps. The first step was to make a vine. This short film had to tell a story that included a beginning, middle, and end. Use of creative plot details, looping, and time manipulation definitely gave an advantage to creators.

Next, the Vine had to be tagged with the hashtag of #6SECFILMS and one of the four categories the user wanted to enter.

Following that, the Vine had to be posted to Twitter so that the jurors could embed and promote those that made it to their shortlist of favorites.

Lastly, Vine creators had to follow @TribecaFilmFest on Twitter to ease communication between the jurors and their favorite users.

All videos had to be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on April 7. The Tribeca Film Festival programming team then met to create a list of Vines that met their creative requirements and made it to their shortlist, displayed on Tribecafilm.com the week of April 17.

The team narrowed down over 400 submissions to just 40 on the shortlist. Four winners were then selected and announced on April 26. Winners in each category received $600.  To view the winning Vines shown at the festival from April 18-28, visit http://mashable.com/2013/04/28/tribeca-film-festival-6secfilms-vine-winners/.
