10 Great Halloween Costumes

As the leaves fall and the weather gets colder, one of the best holidays of the year is upon us- Halloween! And with every Halloween comes the opportunity to wear a great costume. The Banner came up with a list of 10 classic Halloween costumes, all of which are easy to pull together if you’re in a stitch and don’t have one.

  1. Sports Fans

Take me out to the ballgame! You can never go wrong with this classic and easy-to-do Halloween costume. All you need is a jersey from your favorite team. Any sport works: baseball, basketball, water polo, field hockey- you name it! You can add a little something extra by painting your face with the colors of your selected team, or by carrying around that sport’s respective equipment, like a football if you’re a football fan or a baseball glove if you’re a baseball fan.

  1. Princess

Grab your tiaras and get ready for an enchanted Halloween! For an easy costume, find a tiara from a local party store and pair it with any outfit you’d like. You can go with your everyday clothes, throw on a tutu, rock a sundress, or even bring back that dress that you haven’t worn since prom or formal. With this costume, you’re sure to be the belle of the ball, or wherever you’re going for your Halloween festivities.

  1. Greasers

Grease lightning, oh, grease lighting! The classic 1970s film “Grease” can be used for all sorts of great costume ideas. For guys, it’s as easy as grabbing a leather jacket, a white shirt and blue jeans- but don’t forget to gel your hair back! For girls, you can go in a multiple directions: whether you want to throw on a pink jacket to be a member of the Pink Ladies’ clique, or dress in all black and heels like Sandy at the end of the movie, the choice is all yours!

  1. Wizards

For this magical costume, the options are endless! If you’re in the mood for a really easy idea, try dressing the way you normally would and carrying around a wand. You can even pull an Alex Russo from “Wizards of Waverly Place” and keep it in your shoe. For a Hogwarts-esque vibe, try wearing black bottoms and a white button down, with a tie in your choice of house color, whether it be Slytherin’s green, Hufflepuff’s yellow, Gryffindor’s red, or Ravenclaw’s blue. If you want to go all-out, your best option is full-length robes and maybe even a pointy wizard’s hat. Just remember: it’s LeviOsa, not LevioSA.

  1. Nerds

For this brainy Halloween costume, suspenders and glasses are a must. Pair these with your choice of pants and a button down shirt, and you’re all set! And you can never go wrong with a pocket protector, a tie, or plaid. With this look, you’re sure to have an A+ Halloween.

  1. Animals

I’m a mouse, duh! While the costume you’re looking for may not be exactly like the one Karen wears in “Mean Girls”, animal Halloween costumes have always been a classic. For a quick and easy-to-do costume, pair animal ears with your choice of clothing. A popular choice is pairing cat ears with an all black outfit, and use face paint or even eyeliner to draw on whiskers and a cat nose. You can also go for a head-to-toe look wearing an animal onesie, like a giraffe or a unicorn. Regardless of the animal you choose, your costume is sure to be greeted with roaring applause (or barking, neighing, meowing…)!

  1. Cops/Robbers

You have the right to remain silent! This costume is especially great for groups or couples. One of you (or in the case of a group, as many as you would like) wears a black and white striped shirt and a black beanie hat, while the other wears a blue shirt and police badge. You can even add extra touches with things like handcuffs and a police cap!

  1. Hippies

Putting together this costume is so easy that you might even call it a peaceful experience! Look at all of your flowy, floral, or tye dye clothing, and take your pick! You can never go wrong with flowy pants or bell bottom jeans. Pair it with anything from flowers in your hair to big circular glasses. Throwing up peace signs with your fingers in all of the pictures you take is a must. Just go with the flow, man!

  1. Superheroes

This costume idea has come to save the day! It can be as simple as wearing a shirt with the superhero of your choice’s logo on it, or you can go all out with a head-to-toe costume, although it may be a little tricky if you’re Thor and you don’t feel like carrying a huge hammer around while you participate in Halloween festivities. Maybe you’ll just have to leave it in the batmobile? No matter what you end up doing with this costume, it’s up and up and away to a great Halloween!

  1. Spies

I spy with my little eye, a great costume idea! This costume is easy to throw together, especially if you don’t have time to run to the store and get anything! Just put on all black, and finish it off with a black beanie hat. You can even go the James Bond or Men in Black route by wearing a suit. Carry around a walkie-talkie and communicate with friends all night long using undercover codes: “The eagle is in the nest. Roger that. The robin is flying. Over.” This costume idea is so killer that they might start calling you double-oh-seven.

The Halloween spirit(s) is in the air! Don’t let procrastination or lack of creativity keep you out of the fun. Try any of these really easy, really fun costumes that can quickly be thrown together at 1 pm on October 31. And hey, you’re set for 10 more years of Halloween.
