Recap of Spirit Week

Recap+of+Spirit+Week

As Spirit Week winds down with a huge win for our Rams, we should take a moment and sit back to reflect on some of our past spirit weeks at Harriton High School. According to most seniors, this has been the most successful spirit week yet. Every day this week, people participated by dressing up. The people without spirit were the outliers, and not the other way around, as it has been in past years. Beginning early, Student Council began emphasizing the importance of spirit and put together a video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5LTkV7F81E), as well as selling RAM Bars (a bite of Mr. Eveslage in every bite) to promote school spirit.

Starting on Monday with PJ Day, the week was a huge hit. On Monday, everyone dressed down and pulled their slippers out of the closet. Onsies were the fashionable choice for PJ day. Following that was USA Day, and many students spotted the Statue of Liberty walking around the halls of Harriton.  Following a festive day of red white and blue, Harriton jumped back in time for Way Back Wednesday. Seniors wore their togas, and everyone else pulled together an assembly of clothes ranging from the 60’s – 90’s. Tie-dye shirts and peace signs were popular choices for students. Flashing back to the next day, everything doubled; must have been all that time traveling experience. Needless to say, Twin Day was a hit. After all that time traveling, Friday was the biggest day. Throughout the halls we all saw red and white. The pep rally was one of the best pep rallies ever; with performances from boys’ soccer, girls’ and boy field hockey, the Latin club, the drum line, our cheerleaders and, of course, our men’s football team.

Later that day, the real fun began. At 5:30 people began to trickle into the tailgate for face painting, poster making, and, of course, one thousand hotdogs. At 7:00, more Herd members turned up for the Friday night showdown against the Lower Merion Bulldogs. The Rams came out victorious and wiped LM off the field with a final score of 28-13. “Individual commitment to a group effort – that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work” (Vince Lombardi). The Herd came together to support our football team and, together, we came through with a win! Congratulations on a great spirit week Harriton!
