Redefining GLAM – Girls’ Leadership: An Active Movement

Redefining GLAM - Girls Leadership: An Active Movement

Are you a girl? Do you want to feel empowered?

Harriton High School has teamed up with Lower Merion High School to host a workshop created by girls, for girls. Redefining GLAM (Girls’ Leadership: An Active Movement) will explore the ways girls today are confined by societal gender standards and what high school girls can do to change these standards and reach their highest potentials.

When: Saturday, April 26th, 2014 from 8:30 AM to 1 PM (registration starts at 8 AM)

Where: Lower Merion High School (315 E Montgomery Ave, Ardmore, PA 19003)

Here are eight reasons why you shouldn’t miss GLAM:

  1. You will hear real life experiences of other women who have once been in your shoes, and how they have been able to challenge and overcome the obstacle of gender stereotypes.
  2. Tired of not being heard in the classroom? Research shows that in class, boys are called on more often than girls. Learn to take charge and be heard in the “Loud & Clear: Use Your Voice to Reach Your Goals” workshop!
  3. In the Money Matters workshop, you will learn the basics of budgeting, credit cards, saving for college, and more.
  4. Feeling stressed? Want to relax? You can participate in the “Yoga & More for Self Discovery” and “Self-Defense Assertiveness Training” workshops!
  5. Boost your confidence in the “Self-Defense Assertiveness Training” workshop.
  6. First impressions count. Learn how to dress for success to ace that interview for college or a summer job.
  7. There will be a screening of the jaw-dropping and eye-opening 2011 Sundance-nominated film “Miss Representation,” followed by discussion in break-out groups (This is something you don’t want to miss!).
  8. FREE FOOD!! Breakfast will be served during the conference.

This workshop is open to all female high school students from Harriton and Lower Merion. Registration is open now! Hurry, only 75 girls from Harriton can attend. The deadline for registration is April 9th.
