Protestors on Wall Street

Ever since the United States went into a recession unemployment has increased and there have been a lot of economic bailouts from the government to try to stop corporate business from going under. Citizens are angry because we are living in hard economic times. These people need someone to blame, so they have chosen to protest Wall Street, where there is a lot of international trade.

When Wall Street does well, Main Street does well. The questions one must ask are whether the protesters are benefiting the Nation’s current economic position and whether they are protesting in the correct place.

The Occupy Wall Street protesters have been making a poor economic choice. They are forcing the government to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to ensure that the protests do not get out of hand. Recently, people have been arrested, and these disputes have caused the need for more police to protect everyday citizens.

Furthermore, the protesters are distracting the workers on Wall Street. These distractions are diverting them from their daily tasks, which would help the US economy.

The people that participate in the protest have every right to do so, but one would think they would be better off trying to improve their own economic situation. By going back to work, the protester would be an asset to society, not an expensive nuisance.

Lastly, if there are to be protests, they should be on Pennsylvania Avenue, not Wall Street!
It is only natural for people to blame others over a big issue. The protesters have chosen to use big business as a scapegoat. These people might choose to blame the businesses because they are jealous that businesses are the driving force of the economy. The protesters should be blaming the White House and protesting there. The President is, and should be, the driving force of the economy because he has greater influence on the passing of bills, but President Obama has not done much to benefit the economy since he came into office in 2008. From the beginning of the President’s first term to today the country has remained in a recession, and we are not closer to reinstating the dollar as a leading international currency. The President, however, could make both parties happy. He could pass a bill to ensure that more businesses produce their goods in America instead of China.

The White House is a better place to protest than Wall Street because the President can actually help change the economy.

In the coming weeks, hopefully the protesters will leave Wall Street. This would benefit everyone from the US citizens to the protesters themselves. Also, the reckless amount of money spent in keeping the protest safe could go instead to new stimulus plans; if the country starts making reasonable economic decisions, then one day America will not need foreign money,
